Tough question to ask - Does anyone know of any voting stats of the unemployed?
This is not meant to be a post about ignoring the plight of the unemployed, but a search for data on the voting trends of the unemployed.

What I'm curious about is if anyone knows of any numbers indicating how this group of people typically vote, or if they even do vote. I certainly believe there are probably a lot of minorities in this group, but what interests me is if there are also a great deal of people who would not vote Democratic if their life depended upon it.

I'm wondering if there is a large block of voters in here that blame the Dems, immigration and all sorts of other things for not having a job and wouldn't vote Democratic for anything (some unemployed people I know are the types Howard Dean said we'd have to fight hard to get their vote because even though they might vote for a republican it would be against their own economic interests).

If there are strong, anti-Democratic veins running through this group (like a large number are "tea party" people) the Washington Dems really need to start pushing how the Rethugs are so quick to toss this group aside.

1. Isn't being unemployed supposed to be a temporary thing?
It is sad that "the unemployed" has turned into a label.

2. I've heard a few general statistics, but nothing firm
I couldn't tell you any exact numbers, but I do recall a few such statistics I've heard about unemployment in recent years.

-Percentage-wise, twice as many African Americans are unemployed then White people.

-Jobs that require a lot of education, and jobs that require virtually no education are dealing with the recession much better, and have seen much smaller job loses. Jobs that require some education and pay a decent wage have been the hardest hit by the recession (such as secretaries), those 'middle class jobs' were suffering like that somewhat even before this recession.

-I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think blue states have had higher unemployment numbers in this recession then red states.

3. I hope at the end of the day....
The Dems are able to use this part of the tax debate to really show the core difference between us and the Re-thugs. And again, I'm not trying to find information to pick on people, but for the Washington Dems to come up with a message that hammers home which party cares about PEOPLE, regardless of what party they are from.

4. There are no stats on this group.
Because there is no group. Some people are unemployed for a week, some for a year or move. People move in and out of the "unemployed". No way to determine how they vote except if you polled people who happen to be unemployed on the day of the election.
