They'll have to be called what they are actually going to be: "the Obama tax cuts for the rich."

Funny how things, er, "change".

5. Actually it is the Republicans who oppose unemployment benefits.
Some democrats are just opposed to an appeasement policy with the actual bad guys. Other Democrats would just rather blame liberals for the sins of the right.

6. what republican was opposed to the unemployment benefits?
Over a week ago both McConnell and Boehner said their caucuses would support extending unemployment benefits.

11. I remember that too
McConman & Boner had this exact package on their agenda..
Extend unemployment benefits with continuation of tax cuts for high earners.

19. I actually find their position to be really hypocritical.
They were opposed to unemployment benefit extensions because they would add to the deficit. Pass them, but make sure that some funding source makes them budget neutral.

But if we can add not the the unemployment benefit extensions to the deficit but an additional few hundred billion dollars, well, hey, who cares about "budget neutral" if the budget is beaten to a pulp and in a coma?

4. No,

that didn't work the last time it was tried. It's easy enough to distinguish tax cuts for the rich from those for the middle class.

Oh, welcome to DU.

3. There will be people reminding those who forget that
the tax cuts for the rich were what Republicans wanted.

I'm sure Republicans are going to want to take credit for them too.

7. That's the problem with capitulation. You up defending, & thus owning, the opposition's bad policy.

17. That's a bit disingenuous don't you think?
I mean, there's more to the compromise than just the tax cuts for the rich, right? Don't forget that the Republicans aren't universally happy with this either, so it's not like we would be getting nothing of what we want under this proposal.

Just sayin'
