Is it normal for a President to cut a deal with the opposition
without involving the majority party that said president happens to be a member of?

Is there a precedent for this?

If I were Pelosi, I'd be pissed, too.

1. Pretty sure Bush Sr. cut a deal to raise taxes this way...
Which made his "read my lips pledge" kind of laughable.

Republicans were in a minority in both Houses then, but I do believe the Republican congresscritters were furious.

2. No... but it also isn't normal for a party to fail to follow their President's lead.
And here we thought it would be the republican party that splinters after the election.

5. No. Not at all. In fact, I'm really confused
by this. If Obama is a such a constitutional scholar, then he should know that CONGRESS makes laws, his ADMINISTRATION carries out the laws. I mean that is basic stuff.
