I find it revolting that firts President Obama "whines" about how he is being treated and then calls in Prresident Clinton to "save" him. This WH really needs to grow up and accept the consequences for its own words and actions.

16.  He hasn't stood up for anything. But of course that is the fault of "everyone else".
The bad media(who got him elected , BTW) the Bad Congress( who gave him what he genuinely wanted, The Blue Dogs, ( which he admits he is) , and finally, us, for having elected him to begin with. But it is never, never Pres. Obama's fault. The buck doresn't seem to stop at his desk as it did at all other presidents.d congress

I think most of the "Hillary supporters" have moved beyond 2008. I, for one, think that President Obama is doing a good job, on the whole, and I am pleased that he is able to reach out to President Clinton to support him.

19. Everything's Relative...
1. Who says Obama "called" Clinton? Unless we're actually in the West Wing listening to staff meetings we have no idea who called whom and why.

2. How do we know that ALL past-Presidents don't at least keep in touch with the sitting POTUS regardless of party/ideology? The ranks of President/living ex-Presidents is a VERY small fraternity.

3. Consider what Clinton had to choose from if he wanted advice from living ex-Presidents: Bush I (who hates him), Reagan (senile), Carter (not yet vindicated), Ford (virtual recluse) and Nixon (disgraced and dead by Year Two of Clinton's presidency anyway). Again, we don't know if Presidents consult exes on anything at all; but if Clinton didn't, can you blame him? And how do we know if that helped or hurt him?

notice that it wasn't long after it was gone that he morphed from Johnny Sunshine to the angry John of 2007 and he took up with Rielle. (OR maybe if we play his speeches from 2006 and 2007 backward, we will find the real John - the one with the mole - was replaced. As plausible as the 1970 rumor that spread like wild fire.)

24. Pragmatism is frowned upon.
I can kind of understand it. I wish for a more liberal world, I wish the 80s hadn't happened politically, but they did and they changed the goal posts. Reagan did to the US as Thatcher did to the UK...short of a time machine, there's no going back. With the control conservatives have in just about every construct of power and influence, I think the best that can be hoped for is a very gradual reversal. I think a bare minimum of 12 years of non-Republican rule - of them holding a maximum of one tier of government at a time and never the Presidency - is needed to start chipping away.

This irony of this episode is almost more than I can bear. Remember when Obama was running for President? Saying, we didn't want to go back and fight the same fights from the 90s? Bush-light? Caving to Republicans? I didn't have the heart to watch this press conference, was Hillary Clinton smirking on the sideline? Obama calls in Bill Clinton to defend his capitulation to the Republicans. This falls under the category of, you can't make this stuff up.

The Congressional Black Caucus held a news conference to talk about President Obama’s agreement with Republicans on tax cuts and unemployment insurance. Recntly, House Democrats voted in a party meeting to reject the package unless substantial changes are made.

I'm sure he thought it wouldn't make him look good and make the Big Dog look like he pissing on territory and claiming it, like dogs do.

But Because President Obama is not a self centred prick, he thought if Clinton can help this along in any way and if I have to take some flack about my personal strength, etc., okay, I'm okay with that. As long as something positive comes out of it to help, let the talkers talk.

50. President Clinton's was a perfect reality check. Here's why...
I hate the thought of having to compromise on the tax cuts, but no compromise is only in your corner when YOU have the upper hand. Right now the Republicans HAVE the upper hand – more than enough “no” votes in the Senate to keep tax cuts for the wealthy in ANY compromise. If Democratic candidates campaigned on tax cuts for the wealthy during the 2010 Campaign as the President suggested, perhaps 90% rather than 40% of eligible voters would have voted in the midterms and the Democrats would have the upper hand regarding the tax cut controversy, but that’s past history.

Because of the midterm results, Republicans will be in charge of the House and the 60 vote filibuster-proof Senate on the side of Democrats will be out the door come January 1st. At least now a compromise will benefit the middle class, the poor, and the unemployed and small businesses with the extension of unemployment benefits, tax cuts for the middle class, payroll tax cuts, and incentives for small businesses to create jobs. It’s not the best of both worlds, but it’s better than nothing at all. After January 1st when the Republicans are in charge of the House, you can be guaranteed that those benefits will be ‘gone with the wind’.

WE criticized the President and Democrats when we didn’t get the public option but WE didn’t fight for it. We let the Tea Party and health insurance industry do ALL of the squawking and we didn’t start raising Cain until after the fact. WE must deliver the upper hand. WE must speak out in ONE voice. WE must shame the Republicans into ending those tax cuts THROUGHOUT the next two years. WE must hold local rallies. WE must fight for our rights in local AND national newspapers, internet, radio and media outlets. WE must email, fax and call Republican Congressional offices EVERY DAY. We must let Tea Party-backed Republicans know that if they continue to fight for the wealthy and ignore the middle class, the poor and the unemployed, WE WILL vote them out in 2012 and WE must mean it!

89. Thanks for the update.AND the fight!
I emailed and called GOP legislators and blogged my fingers to the bone on TV Alley and Organizing for America on the issue, but was so discouraged when all I saw on television were Health Care Forums gone wrong on the Tea Party side without an equal balance on the Democratic side. If you ever need another poster to fight for one of your causes, I'm in!

68. Bill is a pro and today once again he showed how good he is at this game.
Compare Obama's press conference on Tuesday and Bill's today. Obama came off as defensive and managed to insult the Republicans AND his base. He always seems brittle and thin skinned when he's questioned by reporters. Bill, on the other hand, was in his element. Easy going, knowledgeable and well informed. But what makes Bill the best politician of his time is the ability to explain even the most difficult and esoteric issues in common terms that most people understand.

;)

71. I am so sorry that you feel the need to come on here and lecture us
about ex-President Clinton helping out the current President!

Who enacted DADT (now it is President Obama's to fix), DOMA, ENDA, NAFTA, outsourcing jobs, 3 strikes you are out? Guess Bill Clinton is doing a great job in Haiti (him and his buddy George Bush)!

72. Then why did Obama need him to come?
And maybe you aren't aware of it, but before DADT, gays were not allowed to serve in the military...period. Under the Department of Defense Directive it was legal policy that homosexuality is incompatible with military service and persons who engaged in homosexual acts or stated that they are homosexual or bisexual were discharged under The Uniform Code of Military Justice, passed by Congress in 1950 and signed by President Harry S Truman, established the policies and procedures for discharging homosexual service member.

Under DADT With "Don't ask, Don't tell" With the "Don't Ask" part "As it exists, DADT specifies that the "don't ask" part of the policy indicates that superiors should not initiate investigation of a service member's orientation in the absence of disallowed behaviors, though credible and articulable evidence of homosexual behavior may cause an investigation. Violations of this aspect through unauthorized investigations and harassment of suspected servicemen and women resulted in the policy's current formulation as "don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue, don't harass."

While I wish it would be repealed and gays could serve openly and proudly, in the 2 years, that Obama has had a democratic majority, I've seen no rush by him to overturn it or NAFTA, or anything else.

How's Haiti working out for you? That Clinton or anyone else gave a damn to try and help that tragic situation, is not something that should be made fun of.

And by the way...look up the Clinton foundation and all the money he has raised and the good it has accomplished. I invite you to come to Harlem sometime, and see how that's "working out" for the people living here now, with all of the restoration that has taken place funded in part by the Clinton administration and Foundation.

Yet Obama has to go to a "failure" like Clinton... is that what you are saying? Clinton, the only democrat to be re-elected twice since FDR. The only President, with the highest approval ratings since WW2.

It's ironic after all that has been said, that Obama had to ask Clinton to come, and speak on his behalf. Go ask Obama why.

place. Image and spin are really powerful when people think Clinton was so great for the economy. NAFTA anyone?
