Patraeus aide: "If the troops can't deal with DADT repeal, they can leave the military."

Damn. That's what I call straight talk. How do you like that, McCain?!

"WASHINGTON -- A senior aide to David Petraeus, commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, is out with a strong statement in support of repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT), saying that servicemembers who can't adjust to the change should think about leaving the military.

"If there are people who cannot deal with the change, then they're going to have to do what's best for their troops and best for the organization and best for the military service and exit the military service, so that we can move forward -- if that's the way that we have to go," said Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill in an interview with Roland Martin on Washington Watch, set to air on Sunday. "

3. Your OP line isn't right -makes it sound like he's defending DADT.
What he said was, if troops can't deal with DADT *repeal,* they can leave the military.

5. Some will.
When I was in the Air Force, I remember a lot of people saying they would not re-enlist if homosexuals were allowed to serve openly.

6. Sure.
And then more gay and lesbian people will enlist to take their place. I think there are gay and lesbian people who want to serve their country, but won't because of an indefensible sop to bigotry. And major kudos to the gay and lesbian servicemembers currently serving in spite of that law that needs to go now.

8. Hmm... Perhaps many will take him up on that and take the Corporal Klinger avenue out!
... and say they are gay just to get out of their "obligations" to stay in.

Wonder what will happen when our military gets too understaffed to avoid a draft, and then when drafted, every person who is says "Find someone else thank you! I'm gay!" What will these wingnuts do then without anyone to fight their damn profit center wars!

10. Wow!
:wow:

I've always thought that anybody threatened by gays and lesbians serving in the military shouldn't be there anyway.

12. Would They Get General Or Honorable Discharges?
Edited on Sat Dec-11-10 11:09 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
If it's the former they will have to explain to prospective employers they left the military because they hate gay people.
