US Phasing Out Coal Power Plants
Source Al Jazeera

The White House continues to push through a plan to end reliance on coal energy, despite fresh Republican resistance.

The Obama administration is stepping up efforts to phase out coal-burning power plants, which currently generate nearly half of US electricity needs.

But fresh from their midterm election gains, the Republicans say the new regulations will drive up energy costs and kill jobs.

2. And China is building one new coal power plant every week
Edited on Tue Jan-04-11 01:55 AM by golfguru
We don't need the coal power since manufacturing is being phased out
here. Let the Chinese build things. We will just focus on service industry.
We can have lots of lawyers, accountants, lobbyists, actors, rap singers, musicians,
beauticians, foreign educated doctors, federal bureaucrats, State bureaucrats, city bureaucrats,
school administrators, and of course POLITICIANS. Then you add up all the politicians
in DC and 50 state legislatures & governors, City mayors and assemblymen, county board presidents
and county board members, federal judges, state judges, bailiffs, Jail managers, bail bondsman...
We have plenty of jobs here. We don't need no boring manufacturing jobs here. That
process consumes too much energy and causes pollution. Let the Chinese do it.

4. If the words "phasing out" means "doing nothing," then the OP is true.
There's not an iota of movement to phase out coal.

5. K&R X 1000. I don't know where this comes from, but you are
absolutely correct. The idea that we can magically do away with the coal plants that provide about 50% of our electricity nationally is staggering in its naivety. What would we replace them with - pixie dust?

8. Good...for the environment. Not so good...for the coal miners.
Gonna have to come up with some new jobs for them.
