Politico reports Karen Finney being considered to replace Robert Gibbs
Even though she would be an outsider in Obama’s close-knit camp, the telegenic Finney has more experience than almost any other candidate. In addition to her job as former DNC Chairman Howard Dean’s top communications strategist, she served as spokeswoman for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign, has worked as a Democratic political consultant and served a stint as Elizabeth’s Edwards’s spokeswoman during the 2004 campaign.

She would have been a top contender for the press secretary job if Clinton had won the nomination in 2008 – and has been among Obama’s few effective cable TV surrogates, taking on Republicans with a forceful but genial debating style on CNN and MSNBC, where she’s listed as a contributor.

If either Burton or Finney were chosen they would be the first African-Americans to hold the high-profile position. Finney, if selected, would instantly emerge as the female face of an administration dominated by Type A men — exemplified by Gibbs, who threw himself into the spokesman’s job with the same fire that fueled him as a college soccer goalie.

1. Not a bad idea
and please excuse the shallow advice, but, she needs to lighten her hair color a few shades.

3. You're joking, of course. Karen Finney is black. Do you recommend the same for Michelle Obama?

35. why do we considered
half-black people to be all black? Obama is the 1st black president, Halle Berry is the 1st Black Oscar winner. For some reason nobody every refers to them as white when they have just as much claim to whiteness.

8. Huh?
The article says: ".... and has been among Obama’s few effective cable TV surrogates ..."

I watch cable TV ALL the time and I don't remember ever seeing her!

And if the article hadn't said that Burton was an African-American I would have never have known by looking at his photo.
Actually I looked at the photos 'first' and then read the article and I had to go back and look at the photo again!

12. I do too
and I had no idea she was black. I was making a shallow reference to her appearance. I believe, even if she is black, that she'd look softer with a few shades lighter in hair color. I've no problem with black hair, but, imo...she'd look better with my advice...my shallow advice.

And Dean admitted he had not considered her but that given the idea he would put her at the top of the list.

just like the President.

I know, I know....we consider biracial people black in this country. I don't like it though.

That some Biracial folks take pride in their Black heritage and put it at the forefront....instead of running from it?

my kids are biracial and I teach them to be proud of their black heritage and white heritage.

I guess don't like is too strong a term, let me say instead that I wish biracial folks didn't feel that they had to identify with one side more than the other.

Not being biracial myself, Its easy for me to say.

Burton is very cool, very competent, never appears rattled and is a consummate professional. Not that Karen isn't, but Burton is more my style.

But, respectfully, I couldn't care less which one gets the job. This is not a policy person or someone who asserts a great deal of influence (if any at all) on the President's decisions. They will undoubtedly choose someone who is highly qualified.
