Could DADT still be in jeopardy?
I know President Obama has signed the legislation but

"after certification is issued, a 60-day waiting period for congressional review must take place before gays can serve openly in the U.S. military without fear of discharge."

http://www.washingtonblade.com/2011/01/06/gates-working-to-implement-%e2%80%98don%e2%80%99t-ask%e2%80%99-repeal-2/

I don't understand what review could mean. Will the House be able to stall it and or reject it entirely? Can someone please help me out here.

3. I still have not been able to find an answer about Congressional review.
So I called my Senators office (Bill Nelson). They told me that their understanding is under the 60 day Congressional review that the house will try to appeal it. Senator Nelson's office is confidant that it will not get appealed but that it could put the final implementation farther out that what the Defense department wants.

4. I think you mean repeal it - not appeal it
Even if the House voted to repeal - the Senate would not and the President would not sign it if the Senate did.

6. I used the word appeal because thats what the person at the Senators office said.
I thought that strange also. My main concern is how long would the house be able to hold this up before justice is finally served.

7. I was questioning it because the words are close and I can't imagine the House has
the standing to appeal it to a court.

8. Yes. Reversal will be automatic in the house; the senate does not have the votes to preserve
the repeal now, with the new teabagger senators.

9. Fail. No chance of DADT repeal being undone in the Senate
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 06:19 PM by onenote
The vote to repeal DADT in the Senate was 65-31 (with four repubs not voting). The sixty-five votes in favor of repeal included 55 Democrats, 2 independents (sanders and lieberman) and eight repubs. Only five of the Democrats that voted for repeal (Bayh, Dorgan, Feingold, Lincoln, and Specter)were replaced by repubs (and one repub, Voinovich who supported repeal also was replaced by a repub). Thus the Senate still has 50 Democrats and 2 independents and seven repubs who voted for repeal. Even if the repubs all turned around and changed their position (not going to happen) there still would be a majority in favor of repeal. And in the absolutely unlikely event that some of the Democrats reversed position, there will still be a solid bloc of Democrats sufficient to prevent cloture on a measure to undo the repeal.

The House will do what the House will do, but its not going to matter. Frankly, I'm not certain, in the face of a certification from the President and the military leadership, that the House repubs will even make an attempt.

12. There Will Never Be Another House Vote On DADT
Has there even been a floor vote to take away a civil right to a heretofore disenfranchised group that had been granted.

11. Well, I'd say that DADT IS defenitely "in jeopardy"
It's gone!

As for the actual full repeal of it, it sounds like it's in full motion.
