"GOP spending plan would cost 700,000 jobs, new report says"

By Lori Montgomery
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, February 28, 2011; 11:15 AM

A Republican plan to sharply cut federal spending this year would destroy 700,000 jobs through 2012, according to an independent economic analysis set for release Monday.

The report, by Moody's Analytics chief economist Mark Zandi, offers fresh ammunition to Democrats seeking block the Republican plan, which would terminate dozens of programs and slash federal appropriations by $61 billion over the next seven months.

Zandi, an architect of the 2009 stimulus package who has advised both political parties, predicts that the GOP package would reduce economic growth by 0.5 percentage points this year, and by 0.2 percentage points in 2012, resulting in 700,000 fewer jobs by the end of next year.

His report comes on the heels of a similar analysis last week by the investment bank Goldman Sachs, which predicted that the Republican spending cuts would cause even greater damage to the economy, slowing growth by as much as 2 percentage points in the second and third quarters of this year.

1. The sacrifice of millions of jobs is but a small price pubs gladly paid to extend tax
cuts for the uber-wealthy. Sadly, the administration dutifully went along realizing what budget cuts the pubs would extract and the certain devastation that would surely follow. :patriot:

2. 700,000 jobs lost is just what the rethugs want
they will then blame Obama/Dems for it all in 2012 and the general populous will believe it.

The rethugs suffer from Hero syndrome.......create a disaster and be the ONLY one who can save us. unfortunately, they only really know how to create disasters.

3. and the so-called "party of responsibility"
Edited on Mon Feb-28-11 04:37 PM by Proud Liberal Dem
always seems to be able to figure out a way to avoid responsibility. :eyes: Well, they didn't really have anybody else to blame in 2008 after W. messed things up so bad for everybody, so they lost the WH and remained busted down to minority status in Congress but, with the assistance of the ginned-up "Tea Party", they were able to convince a lot of uninformed and misinformed people that one-party control of Congress and the WH was responsible for not fixing the problems THEY caused fast enough, which made conditions ripe for increasing their clout in Congress in 2010. Fortunately, once they get some power, they can't seem to keep themselves from overreaching and we're already seeing signs of it. Hopefully, they will be busted down again to minority status in Congress after 2012 and they won't set foot in the WH for some time.

4. you are putting a lot of faith in a people who are either unaware
or flat out don't believe that rethugs controlled both houses of Congress for nearly 8 years. Rethugs do a very good job of cooking the facts, spinning the story, rigging the elections and controlling the debate. I still like their chances for 2012 at this point.

6. They are short sighted irresponsible bastards...
who want to see people staving and dying in the streets, all to cut spending...and all the while never cutting the Pentagon budget.

5. Where are the teabaggers complaining about this? Where is the media screaming about this?
Ed where are you to bitch and moan? Where are the populists---where are the left reporting in record numbers about this...Most seem to be sleeping on this. Why doesn't anyone ever interview a teabagger head---or a few of them and ask them what they think about these numbers on national television?
