Obama Chief of Staff Bill Daley, when informed of PJ Crowley's disagreeing comments: "He's done"
Edited on Sun Mar-13-11 01:02 PM by brentspeak
White House Chief of JP Morgan Chase-Usury-and-Home-Foreclosures Bill Daley's comments relayed on ABC News' Jake Tapper's blog:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2011/03/state-department-spokesman-pj-crowley-resigned-bradley-manning.html

While some White House officials knew of Crowley’s comments, White House chief of staff Bill Daley learned of them when ABC News asked that question of the president. Daley told White House officials of Crowley, “he’s done.” Manning was arrested in May 2010 after telling a former hacker that he had given documents to WikiLeaks. Earlier this month the Army filed 22 new counts against him including aiding the enemy, theft of public property or records, computer fraud, transmitting information in violation of the Espionage Act.

1. Can't have any aids speaking truth to power...
Now that he's out, I hope Crowley opens up. I can not support what is being done to our American principles and international reputation by the kind of tactics continued under Obama--any more than I could with Bush*.

2. I thought it was because Hillary didn't like him?
Or so Politico and Candy say. IMO He actually told the truth and that's not a good idea.

4. Bill Daley obviously learned of it later than Hillary Clinton did.
Considering Crowley was her spokesperson, I'd say Hillary Clinton knew about it first. Then Bill Daley heard about it via the press.

and extends his tax cuts for the wealthy. He also comes out for the expansion of the war in Afghanistan and extrajudicial killings in Pakistan. President Bush also signs an executive order creating a formal system of indefinite detention at Guantanamo and lifts the moratorium on offshore drilling.

Did I say President Bush? I meant President Obama. I'm sorry, it's easy to get confused.

6. Well, this certainly puts an end to the speculation
that this was the official State Department position. CNN

<...>

"The unauthorized disclosure of classified information is a serious crime under U.S. law," Crowley said in a statement Sunday. "My recent comments regarding the conditions of the pre-trial detention of Private First Class Bradley Manning were intended to highlight the broader, even strategic impact of discreet actions undertaken by national security agencies every day and their impact on our global standing and leadership.

"The exercise of power in today's challenging times and relentless media environment must be prudent and consistent with our laws and values," Crowley said. "Given the impact of my remarks, for which I take full responsibility, I have submitted my resignation."

Crowley has told friends that he is deeply concerned that mistreatment of Manning could undermine the legitimate prosecution of the young private. Crowley has also made clear he has the Obama administration's best interests at heart because he thinks any mistreatment of Manning could be damaging around the world to President Obama, who has tried to end the perception that the U.S. tortures prisoners.

<...>

Hammer will replace Crowley as the assistant secretary for public affairs, Hillary Clinton said in a statement Sunday.

She said she accepted Crowley's resignation "with regret."

"P.J. has served our nation with distinction for more than three decades, in uniform and as a civilian," she said. "His service to country is motivated by a deep devotion to

8. Have there
been reports confirming "disgusting and inhumane treatment"? Did Crowley visit Manning or talk to the Pentagon or were his comments based on the unconfirmed reports?

21. Very well said.
Of course, if some of the same things that have occurred during the last 2 years had happened in the Bush era, everyone here would be condemning them. This incident is one example of those occurrences.

35. And then leaked a quarter million diplomatic documents that had nothing to do with it?
OK, throw out the charges on the helicopter assault on civilians.

He still committed treason revealing sensitive diplomatic cables that had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the war in any way.

There was no reason to do so, except pure spite. The only thing accomplished by doing so is embarrassing some of our diplomats.

If Manning is a hero for revealing the facts about that helicopter assault, he then should also be reviled for revealing sensitive diplomatic cables THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WAR OR ANY ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.

But no one wants to defend him here on those charges.

14. Now THIS is the real story IMO....
.... IF TRUE .... that Daley did not know about the remarks until President was asked about them the next day .... I realize I have a bit more time to spend reading Twitter than Daley does, ;) but the fact that *I* knew the State Dept. spokesman had gone off of the reservation before (supposedly) Daley did is disturbing.

36. What secrets? Crowley possessed sensitive information on Manning?
Crowley stated his opinion. He was not hired to do so.

He went outside the scope of his employment when he stated his opinion on matters upon which he has no real expertise.

His opinion on anything means diddly-squat.

He was hired to be a spokesman for his superiors. That's what he took money from them to do.

He got fired.

If your boss paid you to do a job, and you screwed it up, you get fired, too. That's how it works.

26. I said the same thing and anybody who understands what the role of a spokeperson is probably said
the same thing. A spokeperson is not supposed to state his personal opinion in front of a public audience. That seems obvious.

I still cant figure out what is the truth in Manning's treatment because both sides are too busy yelling at each others with few facts, but I am not surprised that Crowley had to resign. He overstepped his role as a spokeperson and that became the story.

37. Bet you get moist thinking about it, too.
Can I tell you a little story about myself?

I used to think when I was a little kid I could fool everyone, all the time.

I was wrong, but I didn't think so until I ran into people difficult to bullshit that could see right through me.

That's when I grew up.

I know some people never really grow up, and live their entire lives thinking they can fool everyone, because they themselves are so easily fooled.

I am glad that I am not that person, thinking that others are like me, gullible.
