What happens after a House-Senate Conference?
Does the compromise bill need another vote?

For example, if the compromise eliminates the abortion amendment and the public option that were in the House bill, does the House need to vote on this one? Also the Senate?

I am not sure. Just asking.

1. Yep, another vote
which means 60 votes to take it to debate on the Senate floor and 60 votes to close debate on the floor before you need 51 in an up or down vote.

2. Thanks.
It still boggles the mind that the Republicans passed whatever they wanted without having 60 votes.

On the one hand, they never ask questions. They do what they are told. On the other hand, it seems that we take it a bit too far with our independent thinking.

Sigh.

3. Democrats are soooooo scared of the filibuster.
They were afraid to use it. And, they are afraid of forcing the pukes to use it. If they did, we would know who is really against the Democratic Party--hint:it isn't progressives and liberals.

5. This is what would happen.
Once a bill has been passed by a conference committee, it goes directly to the floor of both houses for a vote, and is not open to further amendment. The bill may be recommitted to the conference committee until one of the two houses votes to pass the conference report. Once passed by one house the committee is disolved and the second house to act can no longer recommit the bill to conference.

In the Senate, a motion to proceed to a conference report is not debatable, although Senators can filibuster the conference report.

The fat lady will not sing for a while.

7. Thank you for a very detailed reply
Thus, it appears that Lieberman can still threaten a fillibuster.

This man now holds more power than if he were elected to become a V.P. Perhaps even if he became - gasp = a President.

On second thought, if he were - gasp - a President, he probably would have known how to best maneuvering the Senate after spending so many years there - just like LBJ did.

Sigh.
