Obama is selling us out again!
Politico: W.H. unveils college completion kit

The Obama administration is rolling out an effort to give governors the tools they need to boost college completion rates in line with the president’s goal of getting the United States to lead the world in proportion of college graduates by 2020.

At a summit in Washington on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden will release a “College Completion Tool Kit,” a 23-page document that offers governors ideas on how to boost college graduation rates, including using data to make decisions and simplifying the process for students transferring from one college to another.

8. What is with this college obsession?
College is not for everyone ... never has been.

But the 'Race to the Top' policy is almost maniacally oriented towards pressuring kids to go to college.

It is disappointing to see Pres. Obama and Arne Duncan pushing this after high school route almost to the exclusion of trades and crafts and other career/job pathways.

And what is the mania about college completion? A degree is not the be-all and end-all for leading a successful life.

17. What a condescending attitude.
The last time I heard those exact words were from a local Republican business owner who was angry that he was having a hard time finding people to work at his business for starvation wages because "these kids don't want to work anymore, they all want to go to college".

Even if you never use a college degree in the course of your employment, you are still an educated person and no one can take that from you.

You must see a degree only in terms of how much money one can make with it, not getting an education for its own sake.

Like my father said to me "I don't care if you dig ditches for a living, at least you'll be an EDUCATED ditch-digger."

Anyone in this country that desires to go on to higher education should have the means available to do so.

21. Yep. The cal state system just announced a 10,000 student reduction in admissions
Universities are getting whacked all across the country, research funds are being cut (which also cuts university funding sources), but HEY, we can read a frickin' pamphlet telling us how to fix all this pronto!

12. It may work out of the best, but I am worried.
A major issue with efforts "boost graduation rates" is the old-model of "graduate in four years." In other words, it's the old model for elites who send their kids from high school to degrees in four years. It doesn't take into account the children of the poor and lower-middle class who work their way through, taking longer, and returning after dropping out -- or starting to attend years after finishing high school.

I'm all for boosting graduation rates after 4 years, 6 years, 8 years, and so on -- but not a 4-year-and-out model.
