Hillary Clinton Favorable Near Her All-Time High
http://www.gallup.com/poll/146891/Hillary-Clinton-Favorable-Near-Time-High.aspx

PRINCETON, NJ -- Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's favorable rating from Americans is now 66%, up from 61% in July 2010 and her highest rating to date while serving in the Obama administration. The current rating is just one percentage point below her all-time high rating of 67%, from December 1998.

With a 66% favorable rating from Americans, Secretary of State Clinton is more popular than the president, more popular than the vice president, and more popular than she, herself, has been for much of her time in the national spotlight since 1993.

5. Wow. Any more popular she could run for president...

...and dispense with the annoying task of having to convince Obama to eat turd sandwiches.

6. I wish she would.
And if Obama can be "convinced" to eat turd sandwiches, then he shouldn't be president.

8. He should eat turd sandwiches willingly?

That Obama seems to express some level of doubt about this affair is the silver lining here, and a welcome improvement over the self-assured drunken cowboy that held the office hostage for eight years.

But I'm just trying to encourage the pro-war DUers to take a moment more and and look at this mess from the standpoint of wondering if it's a bad idea.

Baby steps.

37. That is important to take note of, thanks for pointing it out
Totally divorced from the old fight about who should have won the 2008 nomination, some argued then against Hillary in part because she had been so harshly maligned by the GOP in the past that she by then had become "damaged goods" and therefor was unelectable in 2008.

We must never allow the Republican attack machine to intimidate us from supporting anyone we would otherwise want to back because of it's coordinated attempt to slander them. That in effect gives the Right Wing a unofficial veto they can exercise to eliminate a Democrat they fear from our serioius consideration.

13. Remember the last time similar results were reported?
It is completely normal that Secretaries of state poll above their Presidents. If you go to pollingreport.com and look for the relevant comparisons, you will find that both Powell and Rice significantly outpolled Bush and you can find that Madeline Albright outpolled Bill Clinton.

Though many observed that Powell was more popular than Bush, I never heard anyone make that statement about Allbright or even Rice. I suspect it might be because both Clinton and Powell were well known and well respected by the media before entering that office.

But, remember that shortly after the last of those "Hillary is more popular than Obama" sprees, Obama and Hillary were matched head to head and Obama won by 20 points. There have been subsequent head to head polls - all with the same results. There is no inconsistency here. It is very likely that a huge group approve of BOTH, but when asked who they want to run as the Presidential nominee, clearly they break strongly in Obama's direction.

That must be how you feel since you went to excruciating lengths to explain this poll.

18. You are not so naive to think the last paragraph posted was to
suggest something that the statistics do not say. I have complained about using favorables to state who is more popular no matter who was compared - just because it is not a valid conclusion if there is likely significant overlap.

As to excruciating lengths - note that I did not collect the polls referred to - which I have done in the past. Nor, did I include a demo type numerical example to explain it.

One question - have you ever posted that in the 1990s there were times when Madelaine ALbright was more popular than Bill Clinton? Do you think - based on the fact that she had higher approval ratings at some points, that she was more popular than Bill?

My point is that you just couldn't resist it and had to add the negativity on a strictly positive post.

22. It was not negativity - it was correcting an inference likely written by someone who was far better
English than math in high school. I did not say it was impossible that if there were a poll question that asked "who do you like more" that Hillary could beat Obama. I am saying that this poll does not do this.

It is great that her numbers are high. In fact, it is reasonable to assume that her numbers and Obama's are positively correlated. If hers were to go down, so would his, as it would mean there was something very unpopular in the administration's foreign policy.

You still have not answered whether you think there was any point in the 1990s where Madelaine Albright was more popular than Bill Clinton.

As to not being in the mood to argue - YOU STARTED IT - by going personal. Not to mention, I said NOTHING negative about SoS Clinton. Anyone can look at the exchange and see both points are true.

All the poster did is provide accurate and proper context to the numbers posted in the OP. People who wrongly feel jilted over Clinton's failed Presidential bid can still rejoice in the polling results.

Couldn't leave one positive post about Hillary without the vituperative comments, right?

Why is it always such a threat for some to read that Hillary's approval ratings are high? They have been high for a long time now. Nothing new.

What a surprise, 0 recs.........

28. While Repubs drool over the likes of Palin & Bachmann
two blooming idiots, that they are. We get some positive news about a woman democrat, and its either the time to insult her or ignore it on this board. After watching the media play up to Palin & Bachmann, who don't have 2 brain cells between them, I am so proud I have someone like Hillary representing this party. I really hope she stays in politics and makes a run for it again. All we ever hear about is the men in this party, I'm growing tired of it. We have a lot of women in this party who could do the job just as well, if not better. Time for some respect for their abilities. Time for a change.
