No disrespect to Howard Dean, but to spur debate and discussion here I'll just pretend he's not available. Who would be your pick for DNC chairman (even if on an interim basis for the 2012 campaign?)

Bill Clinton? Would be very effective for a short term.

Hillary Clinton? She seems tired of the State Department. Put John Kerry in that role and move Hillary to the DNC chair in full campaign mode.

Keith Olbermann???!!! THAT would be interesting seeing him spar on with GOPers on FOX, CNN and MSNBC.

3. Miami Herald today lists Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Ted Strickland and Dick Durbin as possibilitie
(Read somewhere the White House has broadened the search)
Tim Kaine jumps into Virginia Senate race. Will Debbie Wasserman Schultz get the call

DNC chief Tim Kaine announced today in a video that he's running for an open Senate seat from Virginia, leaving an opening for a DNC chairman to oversee the central party as Obama heads toward a re-election bid.

AP notes "among those under consideration to replace Kaine at as Democratic National Committee chairman are former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, Florida Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin. Party officials are weighing who would be the best surrogate for the president as he embarks on his re-election campaign. Both Strickland and Wasserman Schultz hail from all-important presidential battlegrounds, while Durbin is a close confidant of the president."

11. Moving Kerry to State at this point makes no sense - and making HRC head of the DNC does not either
1) It throws a MA seat into play right when the MA party needs to concentrate on defeating Brown, who would become the Senior Senator. Kerry is needed in MA now.
2) Kerry in 2008 was an awesome surrogate on all talks shows - beating any Republican paired with him. If he were at State, he could not do that.
3) Kerry is doing an incredible job chairing the SFRC and his legislation for an infrastructure bank - which he has won bipartisan support for is key to Obama's infrastructure investments - a key part of his plan.
4) How was HRC's campaign? As one who does not like HRC, I think she was better than her campaign - which was pretty bad. With a decent campaign, she would have really been inevitable.
5) I seriously doubt that heading the DNC would use HRC's skills well and I doubt she would enjoy it.

21. Somebody who is a good organizer and good at communicating.
Debbie Wasserman is great for the job. She may not be far left wing, but she does not define policy.
