Rachel is SO fired up about Obama's speech! And I got a (new)
rethug roomie to watch her first segment about the speech! Yay! This is too cool. If you haven't had an opportunity to watch Rachel, try to. Oh, and you can download the President's speech at her website (and here also, I'm sure).
I'm late to this party, missed the speech, so this was music to my ears!!!!

3. Nothing. I gave him the clicker, thanked him for indulging me, and

told him he could change the channel (common area-we all watch whatever is on unless mutually decide to change). When I returned, she was still on. :wow: :D

PS, thanks for the transcript. Now I want to read it, too!

16. No, he was still watching. He did
eventually change the channel, but another roomie always puts faux on, so having this one listen to another pov was a good thing.

9. Great show. Rachel was really excited about the speech.
The 2012 president campaign just began with Pres O framing the conversation. He's still the smartest motherf*cker in the room. Thom Hartmann called it a brilliant "anti-Reagan" populist speech. Democrats better stiffen their resolve as well as their spines because it's on biotches.

15. Listen to the great speech in 2008, it was wonderful ...
it talked about how politicians come up with great plans for HC reform during the campaign, only to back down and make deals with lobbyists once elected.

"Enough is enough, that is not who we are..." (Newport News - November 2008)

Great words they were, until the deal with Billy Tauzin after election ...same offering today, negotiate bulk drug prices for Medicare.

Why should I believe this time will be different.

17. That meme is being used to refute the fact that so many here predicted
that during this speech, Obama was definitely, absolutely, positively, going to announce MAJOR CUTS to Social Security and Medicare.

Every article from every unknown website that had an array of "unnamed sources" was posted here as PROOF POSITIVE of the impending announcement of these MAJOR CUTS.

Of course this prediction has again been found to be false. I say again because the same predictions were made in the days leading up to the State of the Union, and they were wrong then too.

The folks who make up the fake outrage machine around here can't admit they were wrong, and so immediately following the speech, they dropped the false prediction, and simply moved on to the "just words" meme.

19. President Obama disagrees with Candidate Obama ... Pharma deal
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 01:47 PM by slipslidingaway
Now President Obama agrees with candidate Obama again.

People have every right to be skeptical of the words when they've heard the same thing before in another great speech.

From a speech just before the election - "Enough is Enough..."

"And we are tired of watching as year after year, candidates offer up detailed health care plans with great fanfare and promise only to see them crushed under the weight of Washington politics and drug and insurance lobbying once the campaign is over.

That is not who we are, that is not who we have to be, enough is enough, it time for us to change."

Newport News - October 2008

And some on DU cheered on the ads backed by the Pharma lobby in exchange for cutting this out of HC reform.

The Legacy of Billy Tauzin: The White House-PhRMA Deal
http://sunlightfoundation.com/blog/2010/02/12/the-legacy-of-billy-tauzin-the-white-house-phrma-deal/

"...Over the following months, pharmaceutical industry lobbyists and executives met with top White House aides dozens of times to hammer out a deal that would secure industry support for the administration's health care reform agenda in exchange for the White House abandoning key elements of the president's promises to reform the pharmaceutical industry. They flooded Congress with campaign contributions, and hired dozens of former Capitol Hill insiders to push their case. How they did it — pieced together from news accounts, disclosure forms including lobbying reports and Federal Election Commission records, White House visitor logs and the schedule Sen. Max Baucus releases voluntarily — is a testament to how ingrained the grip of special interests remains in Washington..."
