90% approval rating for Bush after 9/11....
Betcha President Obama won't get even close for doing the exact opposite
of what Bush did....being a competent President instead of an incompetent one!

1. You're wrong. As misinformed as many Americans are, they will recognize this major achievement from
this administration, and his poll numbers WILL go up significantly

The myth that this administration is "weak" on terrorism has just been crushed

2. I didn't understand why Bush was so approved of.......
considering what happened. That was surreal!

Oh well, we shall see.

Carnival Barkers will try to spin this of course,
but the truth is plain.

3. At the time I don't think it was as much approval for bush as it was standing with the President
after we were attacked

If you recall, prior to 9/11 bush's popularity was going down, not up, and it was the attack on our homeland that united people

This is also a uniting event, and except for the most extreme right wingers, most people will stand with President Obama on this, and he and his security team DO deserve accolades

This didn't happen over night, and the operation was a high risk one

4. I agree with you.
It was a uniting event and that's why Bush went up that high.
While I don't think Obama will hit 90, I think Obama will go up.
I don't really pay too much attention to aprroval ratings, though. They change all the time.

6. Maybe 55-60%
I think the country is far too polarized at this point for any higher than that.

8. exactly, Dems gave Bush benefit of doubt and supported him initially post-9/11
Edited on Mon May-02-11 01:31 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
It wasn't til Bush politicized everything and invaded the wrong country that he lost that near-universal support, despite what the rw media would have you believe

Conservatives will be bitter and cling to their Kenyan conspiracy theories and Obama won't make similar gains. you might see a small uptick among indies, but that's about it.

9. I never believed that poll
I know it is always referenced, but I would need to look at the internals and the exact question asked to believe W got to 90%. At that point in time did I support the U.S., of course, did I approve of the job W was doing hell no.

I find it hard to believe that nine months after a bitter end to an election he was able to achieve a 90% rating.

That being said, you are correct that Obama will not get anywhere near that number. At best case, if he balanced the budget, got us out of all wars, cured cancer, and got us to full employment I doubt he would get much over 70%.

That's what we are up against.
