A Glass Onion view of Government goes looks somethings like this: Through the panes of the legislatures, regulatory bodies, executive departments and secretaries, there's a clear line of sight to the man in the middle, the man behind the glass curtain.

One (or two) Senators nix the Medicare buy in, becomes, 'Obama gives up / kills the Medicare Option.' Every questionable or disappointing thing becomes "Obama ..."

Except Government doesn't work that way: It's through the glass darkly. When his Health Insurance friends come calling, Lieberman doesn't put out a press release, and neither does the White House in response.

These are not the days of LBJ when arms could be twisted out of their sockets. In those times, some Republicans would vote for you. Today it's none. Zip. If every single vote depends on Democrats, it's all to easy to say 'The' Democrats let us down. Don't mention The Republicans

Peace? Reconciliation? (heh drugs?)

The point is, McCartney sung about fixing a hole in a roof, Lennon moved onto the seemingly impossible, 'a hole in the ocean': The impossible, or merely the improbable?

In McCartney's song 'The Fool on the Hill' was anything but stupid. 'The Pundits, The Pundits' Obama likes to say.

He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him,
The fool on the hill
