The Little Picture: Obama- Made in the USA

Veronica Beebe | May 18, 2011 | TAPPED

While reported front runners have bowed out of the Republican race, Obama's campaign for reelection in 2012 has a new marketing strategy-- capitalize on controversy. In an email sent today, deputy campaign director Julianna Smoot invited supporters to buy their very own birth certificate t-shirt and mug, above. While the President said that he did not have time for the "silliness" revolving around the question of where he was born, he released his birth certificate on April 27. While the release did stymie the rise of birtherism, 17 percent of Americans still do not believe he was born in the United States. Smoot says in the email, "If the facts can't make these ridiculous smears go away, we can at least have a little fun with it."

1. To me there is an ick factor to that. I'm not sure why.

I guess it's reminding me about all the racism.

2. I think it's very funny; it's pointing out the ludicrousness of people
even considering he's not an American.

9. And it points out one's willingness to focus on the ludicrous rather than real issues.

Which just shouldn't be what being a Dem is all about. There are too many issues being ignored, like JOB CREATION and MORTGAGE FRAUD, to keep worrying about where he was born.

10. Presidential campaigns can't get away with making their stuff in China
HW Bush had some of his stuff made in a sweatshop (I can't remember what country) and somebody got video footage of it and sent it to the media. In the age of YouTube, nobody would even dare try it.

4. I couldn't decide between this T shirt and the "Its Okay to be Takei"
so I bought both for my partners birthday June 3rd.

I think its re-election genius and expect to buy several as the campaign wears on.

8. The birther issue is just too stupid to wear for either side.
Really let's all just prove what ninny little babies we are by cowing ONCE AGAIN to the topics and subjects that neocons want us focused on, like a birth certificate. MORONIC at best, a Republican ploy at worst trying to make sure they have Dems focused on that insignificant piece of paper.

11. Oh come on
It's for fundraising purposes and it's pretty damn funny. This has gotta make the birthers gnash their teeth.
