Why I don't support Ryan's Medicare plan

By SEN. SCOTT BROWN | 5/23/11 6:03 AM EDT

<SNIP>

Why can’t I go along with the Ryan Medicare plan?

First, I fear that as health inflation rises, the cost of private plans will outgrow the government premium support— and the elderly will be forced to pay ever higher deductibles and co-pays. Protecting those who have been counting on the current system their entire adult lives should be the key principle of reform.

Second, Medicare has already taken significant cuts to help pay for Obama’s health care plan. The president and Congress cut a half trillion dollars to the private side of Medicare — meaning seniors are at risk of losing their Medicare Advantage coverage.

Another key principle is that seniors should not have to bear a disproportionate burden. But that doesn’t mean we do nothing. If Medicare is to survive for current beneficiaries and future generations, we must act. The sooner Congress addresses this, the less painful it is likely to be — but more difficult adjustments will be required if we delay.

We should start by making improvements to the traditional Medicare plan.

9. "political clout"???
He really has little or no political clout.

What he does have is that he is - or at least was - a celebrity and a star - because he won and the media crowned him as such. But, he is pretty incoherent, so self absorbed that he seems utterly shallow. Seriously, Flat Stanley has more depth than Scott Brown.

5. Si, he repeats the same old lie concerning the Obama healthcare plan...

This guy is a moron. He is on record having said he would vote for it, and now is trying to say he would vote against it.

I sincerely hope the Democratic leadership or the white house will present it for what it is rather than once again saying Brown is bipartisan. We need to get rid of the guy, not to promote him.

8. It's easy for him to say that since everyone knows that Ryan's plan won't
pass the Senate no matter which way Brown votes.

When his vote really matters and could swing the results either way, Brown usually votes with the other Republicans. He is just saying this now to get political points. I hope that everyone will be able to see right through that.

11. lol, the Ryan plan is so unpopular conservatives will have to lie out their teeth to defuse this one
...they'll eventually blame it one the DNC for coming up with the plan. The Ryan plan is a game changer IMHO
