MSNBC and the rest of the media is set to go after Weiner to RESIGN
Edited on Mon Jun-06-11 04:37 PM by bigdarryl
Mark my word a Vice President can shot someone in the face and nothing happens as far as the media pressuring him to resign but a Congressman has to resign about a SEX story

5. The lying part wasn't a good thing, and I believe that is now the issue.
I hate that this happened, and that Rep. Wiener chose to lie before telling the truth.
What is it about folks lying about sex anyways? Getting a bit tiring.

I don't even send underwear shots or chest shots.

Weiner apparently did all three.

6. When is this asshole going to resign.
David Vitter:From Wikipedia
Prostitution scandals
D.C. Madam

In early July 2007, Vitter's phone number was included in a published list of phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates, a company owned and run by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, also known as the "D.C. Madam", convicted by the U.S. government for running a prostitution service. Hustler identified the phone number and contacted Vitter's office to ask about his connection to Palfrey.<18><19> The following day, Vitter issued a written statement:
“ This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way.<20> ”

The statement containing Vitter's apology said his telephone number was included in phone records dating from his days as a member of the House of Representatives.<6> Phone records show that Vitter's number was called by Palfrey's service five times, the first on October 12, 1999, and the last on February 27, 2001.<21> Two calls were placed while House roll call votes were in progress.<22><23>

On July 16, 2007, after a week of self-imposed seclusion, Vitter emerged and called a news conference. Standing next to his wife, Vitter asked the public for forgiveness. Following Vitter's remarks, Wendy Vitter, his wife, spoke. Both refused to answer any questions.<24><25><26>

Republican philandering (up to and including actual prostitution) = "aberration"

Democrat philandering (down to and including bad camera angles that make it look like the Dem is admiring someone's butt cheek) = "obvious proof that liberals are immoral"

37. It's irrelevant at this point.
Most people have seen the picture and can see it's his hard-on. His erection is full on in his undies. The point is...it's not worth getting distressed over. But DU will go crazy over it and as they would if a Republican had did it. Our politicians are sexual beings and will fall prey to matters of the flesh at times.

Not to mention when you said "coverup" my mind went into something else entirely---due to the topic direction we were in.

12. I hope to hell Weiner doesn't resign. Maybe it will be a life
lesson for him to learn that a man isn't judged by his abs or his penis. Breitbart will be judged for his filthy occupation of meddling in other peoples personal lives and blabbing about it. If that is all he has to offer the world than he isn't worth the egg shell he came out of.

15. The more important lesson would be "transparency."
Hopefully not of his undergarments.

When asked, "Did you do something questionable?" he should have the balls to say, "Yes, I did." He can be proud of it, ashamed of it, say that he tried to rope his wife into a menage a quatre (cinque, if you include the goat), whatever. Those who believe that politicians should be moral, according to their standards at least, can make the appropriate judgment given all the facts.

Instead he wimped out and either lied or decided that mislead people. "I don't know. Maybe. No. Not really. Well, yes." It's like the guy on the Vicar of Dibley: "Did you do that?" "No, no, no, no... Yes."

Let's at least try to preserve the fiction that our "leaders" aren't constantly lying to us and expecting us to say they're good and moral and upstanding by occasionally having them tell us the unvarnished truth. (No quips about "upstanding," either.)

As has been the case in many other situations, it's not the crime, it's the cover up.

21. Republican Chris Lee resigned after it was revealed he sent a shirtless picture of himself to a
woman on Craigslist. What Wiener did was equivalent to that but in addition Weiner lied and tried to cover it up. Lee never lied about it and and came clean and resigned. So why hasn't Weiner resigned?

33. That's great and all and I totally agree with you..
but the media would have been all over that showing off their best bigot pundits and it would have ruined him in Republican politics. As it stands now he probably can still get into many different circles there and probably has some cushy job related to said circles. Think of this in their demented view of the world. Whether or not we find it disgusting that the mere mention of transgendered people sets off a firestorm is irrelevant. In Chris Lee's world it would have been the equivalency of being cut out of his circle for life and he wasn't willing to risk it.

36. Remember what party he belongs to
There was no way they were ever going to accept that, so resignation was the only way to go, because they were have eventually forced him out if he dug in. The difference between the parties is why Lee resigned and why Weiner has opted not to.

So fuck him. You made your bed, Weiner. Now lie in it. Hard to feel sorry for someone dumb enough to engage in this behavior.

That said, if I were him, I would agree to resign when Diaper David Vitter steps down. Funny how the media gave him a pass and no one out side of political junkies has heard that story.

50. The double standard is blatant regarding media coverage.
Where were all these salivating press hounds when Republicans were involved in unsavory conduct? It always seems they aid and abet the Repubs in their quests to force either apologies or resignations out of Democrats. And, what is even more disgusting is that some Democrat leaders play right into their hands and turn against one of their own.
I know it doesn't look good, but I hope he doesn't resign even though the pressure to do so is building.
