What the hell has gotten into Ed Schultz saying Weiner should resign
Edited on Mon Jun-06-11 10:11 PM by bigdarryl
and come back in 2012 is he serious. If Weiner were to resign there is no coming back so I don't know what Ed is talking about. I like what Mike told him on the panel we should not throw him under the bus so quickly and the democrats have a habit of doing this to one of there own because there two coward.

5. I'm starting to really question Eds loyalty to being a progressive
Weiner's district is going to be redone and Ed has to know this

7. Actually, I question if Ed did know this. He's not known for his ability to keep up with the issues.

18. I can understand that
Most Democrats gave Weiner the benefit of what was really pretty little doubt. His answer that he could not say with "certainty" whether the picture was him was not believable. But, he was defended and Breitbart, who has made his name with story that really were lies, was attacked as somehow creating this.

Now, I think some Democrats may feel used - just as some of Clinton's cabinet were said to have felt in August 1999 when he admitted that he had had an inappropriate relationship after denying everything for 6 months - even to them. In addition, it is galling that this is being used to clean Breitbart's image and to make him the victim of the left smearing him ... when he would say "all he did was tell the truth".

I think Weiner did some damage to the left through his ridiculous, unseemly actions that was magnified by his 10 days of lying.

I agree with posters here that Ed's idea of resigning and returning in 2012 if he were serious is a strange idea. If he stepped down, hopefully a Democrat would win the election to replace him. Ignoring redistricting, a badly damaged Weiner would have to run against him as a challenger in the primary. The other scenario is that he is replaced by a Republican, which hurts us now - both by losing a seat, but also because the Republicans could use the fact as we have NY26.

I think that one Rachel Maddow point, that he no loger has any political capital, actually suggests to me that he should step down to get his life in order - as log as the odds are really good we keep the seat. I also think that that would mean the end of his political career for at least several years. His actions online and in lying to everyone should lose any support the party has for him. His continued presence may hurt Democrats, so uless his district feels that his voice is worth putting up with the negatives, he likely should go..

3. Ed is wrong on this one
Congressman Wiener will find he has solid support for his policies and intellect. Yes, he has a dick. Sometime our dicks can temporarily take over our body and thinking ability s. This is common knowledge among men and many women. It is what it is. I forgive him. Lets move on..........

10. Ed is just looking at the bigger media picture...
For the Democratic party right now it would simply be better if Weiner and the entire story just went away. Ed wants to get the focus back on Republicans trying to destroy Medicare because Ed knows that was a potent winner of an issue. An issue so powerful we just won a bright red conservative district over it (NY 26). Ed knows Weiner's district is heavily Democratic and that there is virtually zero chance we lose the seat. I am sure he still likes Weiner's combative progressive style and just figures for the good of the Democratic party and progressive cause Weiner would do us more good to take a couple months off and then spend his time hammering Republicans on the newstalk/cable/radio circuit.

the man did not cheat on his wife like all the repugs do. He lied, but owned up and is just a marvelous voice in congress. I think Ed is off his rocker on this one
