MA Senate poll - Martha Coakley does best against Brown

There's good news and bad news for Democratic hopes of taking down Scott Brown in our newest Massachusetts poll. The good news is that Brown's approval numbers are starting to decline. What was a +24 approval spread in December at 53/29 has now been cut in half to +12 at 48/36. The bad news is that with no standout Democratic candidates ready to make the race yet Brown leads 8 hypothetical opponents we tested against him by anywhere from 9 to 25 points.
...

The good news is that Brown is losing ground in MA. Even against unknown candidate, he does not reach 50 %. The bad news is that PPP decided to poll people who are not candidates, and probably will not be (including Martha Coakley).

What is obvious at this point is that people only fare as well as their name recognition: Capuano and Markey are the only one to go higher than 35 %. Warren, is only at 32 and Khazei at 31, while Bob Massie and Setti Warren (certainly those who have the lowest name recognition) are basically tied. Now, those two, who with Khazei are the only one in the list running, have potential if they can become known, given that Brown does not reach the 50 % bar with them. And if any other candidate wants to run, please say so rather than waiting the redistricting.

2. She is not running. PPP decided to test people who will not be running.

3. The good news here is Brown's approval fell from 53 to 48 from December

This is significant as this includes the time he got enormous, positive, sympathetic coverage due to his book. Part of the drop is likely due to the ads targeting his bad vote on the EPA and his taking every position possible on the Ryan bill. His idiotic running to the media to say "he was going to Afghanistan" the day after Osama was caught and his claiming to see dead OBL photos likely didn't help.

This is good because watching him on committees and in the Senate, he is pretty over his head and often verging on incoherent. He has had the media repeating on each bill he is asked about that he is "reading and studying the bill." This is always said with the presumption that other Senators do not do this. Yet, he never seems conversant with any details - unlike most other Senators. What seems to be happening is that part of his image is falling apart - leaving just the ordinary guy with a barn jacket and truck.

Brown has not yet had to face the amount of ads on his "bad" votes that he will face closer to the election.

The fact is the Democrats will have a nominee and that nominee's name recognition will increase quickly - and will be able to go after all of Brown's bad votes and the fact that he will caucus with the Republicans - possibly deciding who controls the Senate. (In 1996, Kerry used that issue to defeat Weld, who had over 70% approval and a more progressive record than Brown now does.)

4. You mean Weld had a more progressive record than Brown?
Yes, the image is falling apart. The fact that he does not reach 50 % is significative. A few months ago, another poll was showing him above 50 % with everybody except Joe Kennedy (another poll polling people who will not run).

6. I meant Brown, Thank you for pointing it out so I could correct it
Kerry was far far better than either.

5. Isn't Brown a Tea Party NON-Favorite?
No links, but I swear I've read that on several occasions.
