Huffpo: Pelosi declines to call for Weiner's resignation
Pelosi declines to call for Weiner's resignation

June 10, 2011
05:55 PM EST

WASHINGTON — Amid increasing calls for Rep. Anthony Weiner to resign, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says the decision should be up to the congressman and his New York constituents.

The former speaker said in San Francisco that she believes the decision should be made by "the individual member" and the people in his district.

Weiner, a seven-term Democrat, has admitted sending sexually explicit photos and messages over the Internet to a half-dozen women over the past three years. Pelosi has asked the House Ethics Committee to investigate whether Weiner used any government resources.

Weiner told a newspaper Thursday he would not resign. At least nine House members and three senators said he should quit.

4. I'm glad.
He didn't break any laws and the majority of his constituents want him to stay, and that's good enough for me. I am an advocate of him refraining from broadcasting his wang in the future. Yikes.

7. Good for her!
The closest that Weiner's done that actually counts as misconduct is ... maybe ... using government Blackberries and computers for his naughty tweets.

And I only find that to be a minor offense - as far as I'm concerned, if Weiner cuts a check to reimburse the .gov for his personal use of .gov resources, all is forgiven in my book.

8. She didn't say anything.
Of course, it is up to Weiner and he alone to make the actual decision to resign. Pelosi nor anyone else can "resign" Weiner from Congress.

9. He is hurting the party, PERIOD
Is it fair, is it right, NO but it is a fact by not resigning he is hurting the party. I do not want to end up with less seats in the house in 2012 because did not resign

If your name is Weiner you do not ever send junk shots to women on the internet, if you do maybe you are too stupid to be in congress

11. TG. She's got some good sense.
I wonder how many of those Reps and Senators asking for his resignation also refused to bring charges against Bush/Cheney for treason for leading us into wars for oil companies and Saudi oil interests and did nothing when they exposed a CIA agent's identity who was working on nuclear proliferation.

14. That's total BS and you know it

The girl's mother even said it was BS. The fact is, he didn't break any laws. It's really up to
Huma, his wife, to punish him if she wants to.

15. Didn't even have to wait that long
She and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz have both now come out and publicly called for his resignation.

16. Except that she did exactly that the very next day.
"House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi says Weiner is in need of help and should seek some "without the pressures of being a member of Congress."

20. She did as did DNC Chair Wasserman-Schultz.
I suspect that the drip, drip, drip of more photos was the straw that broke the camel's back.
