Obama would like U.S. to leave Afghanistan during his Presidency
In an interview with CNN from China, President Obama said he hopes to have troops out of Afghanistan before his presidency is over, so his successor can start with a "clean slate."

"Do you think you'll be able to get most U.S. troops home by the end of your presidency or will it be something you hand off to the next president?" asked Ed Henry.

"My preference would be not to hand off anything to the next president. One of the things I'd like is for the next President to come in and say, 'I've got a clean slate and I can put my vision forward,'" Obama said.

He added that he is "very close" to a strategy for the war in Afghanistan and will announce it in the next several weeks.

26. No. He said during his presidency.
Rather suspicious when you are against the Democrats on more than one issue.

21. If he won't have a second term, it will be
because the American people are even more stupid than i thought. It won't be his fault. He's doing the best job anyone could have done with the massive shitstorm they left him. He's obviously - And it's clear from this interview too - resent Bush and his fucked-up administration for screwing everything so much, so he need to waste all his energy and political capital just to clean the mess.

5. Unlike bushcheney who abandoned
our country for 8 years except when they could fuck it up and leave it all for the Dem Prez.

They were left a giant surplus by Pres Clinton and they managaged to screw every last penny.

8. He is always rather progressive in the inital stages of a program, but
Then back slides. He was for "Universal Single Payer HC" long before he dumbed down his ideas and went for the hodge podge of HC "reform" that is now possible.

We do not even need too many troops there, as the air war and the drones are doing so much of the fighting.

For many of us voters, we choose him over Sen Clinton as he had never voted for the war in Iraq. But now he is expanding the war and we have to be pleased with that, as otherwise we might wake up and find Bush Cheney back.

He was very clear about his intention for Afghanistan. You can't say you didn't know.

15. That would imply you once believed a fucking thing he said.
And that would be a fucking lie. You have acted out your poor sport damage ever since Barack Obama had the audacity to win. Usually we'd have to drop into a freeper site for that kind of ugliness.

That's what he's doing. He's bringing them back from Iraq, in the time frame that he promised during the campaign.

13. I'm a glass half-full person
I do not totally support this president on everything. However, any withdrawal will be gradual, not sudden. Hopefully, in the next year or two, we'll be there as a strategic and/or humanitarian force, only. If that's the case, it's foreseeable that some troops may be there for a few years. Hell, we still have troops in Korea...

20. It's easier to have troops in Korea with Kim Jong Il in charge in the North.
U.N. forces in Korea aren't fighting a guerrilla war on the Korean Peninsula like NATO is in Afghanistan. The North Koreans are north of the truce line and you can see them guarding that truce line with soldiers and guns. It's all very out in the open.

Even the South Koreans aren't too upset by us so long as we keep it low key. Every time the South Koreans get comfortable, the Dear Leader does something very provocative, like shoot at South Korean ships or launch a missile into the Pacific Ocean. Kim Jong Il may not ever invade the South, but no one really knows and maybe not even Kim.

I don't think that the South Koreans will want us all the way out until sanity rules in the North. Frankly, I don't mind us being there, either.

28. Awesome! Obama's pulling out of Afghanistan!
I'm so glad to hear it.

Or wait, does he mean he's going to finish the war by sending more and more troops, however many are necessary to pacify Afghanistan?

It better be the former, or else he's going to hear it from you guys, right? You'll give him hell, I'm sure.
