The Nation's Chris Hayes: Are Republicans deliberately tanking the economy?
Chris Hayes: Are Republicans Deliberately Tanking the Economy?

June 28, 2011

The Republicans have an Obama complex. Historically, they have liked certain ideas—pay as you go budgets, cap and trade, raising the debt ceiling—until Barack Obama endorses them. The minute Obama tries to compensate in his quest for the ever-elusive “purple politics,” the Republicans immediately back-pedal. How can he possibly trust their “goodwill and good faith” to negotiate economic issues?

All of which boils down to the question: is the GOP deliberately trying to tank the economy for political purposes? The Nation’s Washington correspondent, Chris Hayes, joins Rachel Maddow to explain why the Republicans are such fickle legislators.

1. Does the Pope shit in the woods?
That's a rhetorical question isn't it?

2. It bears repeating as long as the media ignores Republicans' obvious reckless obstruction

3. Yes, Mitch McConnell said his goal was to make Obama a one term President.
So, isn't it obvious!

4. My problem with Chris is that his article is framed as a question and NOT a declarative statement
of fact!

9. Yes, I know, but it doesn't really get to the heart of the matter. The Republicans
*explicitly* stated that they don't care if people lose jobs. Remember Boehner's "so what" response when asked about the loss of federal government jobs? Mitch McConnell's declarative statement about making sure Obama is a one-term president and that's the party's top priority. DeMint's "Waterloo" comment. The Republicans aren't being rhetorical. They are very clear and very explicit. It's time that we liberals become more declarative and assertive.

While I understand where Chris is going, that headline will just make some people sigh. It doesn't make me want to read the article.

10. Chris comes in at 11:25. It's worth watching, if you haven't watched it.
