The Repubs will be against it, even if they invented it, it's as simple as that. They simply cannot allow the President to take any credit for the solution, because they know that next year he will be remembered as the one who gets the credit.

That's why I think they would rather default. It's a roll of the dice, but likely next year with possible 25% unemployment, Obama doesn't get reelected. More likely they default (kind of), where they let it lapse, but we put together some very brief solution so we can still sort out the details, just enough to hurt the economy sufficiently to ensure a miserable Economy in 2012, but not a Depressed one.

I'll wait until this is resolved before deciding whether he's Hitler of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

But honestly this doesn't bode well. If the sole goal was to get Congress to send him a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling, he was pretty much there before giving public kudos of this trainwreck of a plan. So there isn't a need to box the GOP in further.

The main source of hope is that this wasn't an absolute endorsement of the specifics of the plan, but rather was a comment that they're on the same "playing field". If the President's concept of "playing field" is extremely broad, then something tolerable may still emerge from this, but I'm not holding my breath.

If Obama supported everyone breathing air they'd either hold their breath until the died or they'd move under the oceans and rivers and try get their oxygen like fish do.
Either way they'd be gone and I'd be happy.
