UK business secretary: "rightwing nutters in the American congress" threatening world financial syst

"The irony of the situation at the moment, with markets opening tomorrow morning, is that the biggest threat to the world financial system comes from a few right-wing nutters in the American congress rather than the euro zone," he told BBC television.

1. The worst thing that could happen was to have a debt fight in the midst of a recession

When the world wants financial stability they expect the country responsible for the reserve currency to behave like adults and provide stability.

The debt ceiling should have been a routine vote, not an opportunity for both parties to do some social engineering.
