He'll hand the Democrats a short-term debt reduction plan that only asks the 99% to cough up a kidney and a spleen, vs. the Democratic plan that calls for two kidneys, a spleen, and an arm. Obama will have a choice: veto the plan as promised because it's short term, even though it's less onerous than the garbage what his own party is pushing, or sign it and break a promise.

A few days ago, the Republicans were on the run, now they may be in the catbird seat. This is just like January 2009, when the Republicans were in disarray and irrelevant, yet were able to quickly become dominant again through the magic of unilateral bipartisanship.

Fuck.

1. Actually, what the Democrats should do is introduce an up or down vote to increase the debt limit,
up or down. Have NOTHING attached to it.

If the House votes it down, exercise the 14th amendment, allow the bush tax cuts to expire, and prepare for 2012 by educating the American public exactly how the republicans caused the financial crisis by their trickle down economics, and reversal of regulation.

Let the chips fall where they may

4. Sorry, but the House already voted the clean debt ceiling bill down...
All Republicans voted against it and half of the Democrats. The vote lost 318-97.

The President can no longer push a bill that even half the House Democrats opposed.

5. A smart president would use that vote to his advantage.
If we had one.

6. If all or most of the Democrats had voted for it he could use it....
The problem is fully half the House Democrats voted against the very clean debt increase bill the President originally wanted. That makes the whole argument worthless. If you lose half the House Democrats on the vote and EVERY Republican there is obviously no chance it can pass at all.

9. Still can be used.
Not all the Democrats voted against it for the same reason republicans did. Both groups could be called in by their constituents. He can still play his "I'm the sane one in the middle" shtick. I just want an up and down because any deal, including the ones the president is fighting for, will be an abomination. We are being shock doctrined.

11. I'm sorry Manny, but when in your opinion were the Republicans on the run?
All I've heard from you this entire time is, Obama is caving.
