Without the tax revenue coming in that this country enjoyed before the imbecile, George W Bush, awarded trillions of dollars in tax handouts for the wealthiest Americans, we will not recover anytime soon, plain and simple. I still can't believe we couldn't find a way to let Bush's tax cuts expire when they were SUPPOSED to expire.

From now until 2012 the mantra of the Democratic Party should be "Stand our ground and end Bush's ridiculous tax breaks for the wealthy OR BUST!"

1. That cant be true- Obama signed the Bush Tax Cut extensions into law.

If they were killing us or if they were something that only "small brains" could be for, then Centrist Democrats never would have voted for it and Obama never would have signed it.

The Right-Wingers FOOLED our Centrists again! DARN IT!

I vote we find something that Democrats never went along with and attack that instead.

2. I do believe that's the point.
First World Ecomomies are NOT compatible with Golbalization, and that's what this is really all about.

4. they don't care about the "us" part of the US, just the me part.
There is no us in US. It's case sensitive.

When people sense that things are getting worse, lots of them will say just let me have all my stuff and leave me the fuck alone. I don't care about the decline of infrastructure, I don't care about the global warming, etc. - I don't believe you are going to do anything for ME. I don't believe you CAN do anything. Therefore I do not want to pay any taxes. (this is a sentiment the Democratic Party has run up against and, through decades of neglect of its Labor roots, helped to seed among young white working class voters, who as some article posted the other day informed us, have been turning back to the Republicans lately as the economy has languished.) People who are facing diminishing prospects tend to get more selfish and pessimistic. This is a phenomenon you may also have noticed in has-been entertainment and sports stars. They aren't making much income the way they used to, and so they start screaming about every penny they pay in tax, like Republican tax holidays will restore them to their former rockstar lifestyles.

Rich people, by definition almost, are very ME focused. They KNOW they do not share a common destiny with the rest of us, and they have no desire to change their thinking about that. But rich people do not elect Republicans. They are not numerous enough to elect anyone to anything, beyond the Treasurer of their Country Club. They pay for the election of Republicans. Stupid middle class and poor people do the actual voting for Republicans.

Why don't non-rich Republicans understand that taxes have to be raised on the rich? Because some of them don't believe Democrats have anything to offer them; they have little and don't want taxes going up on anyone. If taxes go up on anyone, they reckon, like always, taxes will go up on ME. They are scared and pessimistic about the future. Others aren't poor, but they dream of joining the truly rich in severing themselves entirely and forever from the fate of the US and from all the dirty poor people who have been crammed in here. They aren't so pessimistic about the future, they think they are going places. They just refuse to include anyone else in their thinking besides themselves.

5. Didn't Obama go with this nonsense to keep unemployment
payments coming? The repubs are serious about using blackmail to stop President Obama. Nothing gets through the Senate without 60 votes - - - - I'm ancient and this seems to be the first time that I can recall that this filibuster method was used on a daily basis.

6. No you're right. They are attempting to fundamentally change the way US Govt works.
Edited on Tue Jul-26-11 12:57 PM by kenny blankenship
The method for governmental innovation they have selected is properly called terrorism. People WILL suffer and die, if they pull the trigger. It's not an abstract thing or logical stretch at all.

The way they are trying to change the way our Government works is contrary to the design of the US Constitution, and is so exceptional as to call into question how much longer this particular national Government can continue to function, regardless of the resolution of the present hostage situation.

7. Exactly "is contrary to the design of the US Constitution....."
To fill up space here I will coment on the importance of separation of Church and State.....

Think Norway, OKC bombing, abortion clinics, etc., all done by radical religious right wingers. Name a liberal that has caused death and distruction? There is probably one but I have not been able to drag one incident from my ancient mind.
