Newsflash: Obama is more popular than either Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton.
A little research out of Gallup's presidential approval rating center, found earlier while I was pulling out another statistic. Through his first term, Obama has averaged a 51% approval rating, and has never yet dipped below 40%. Clinton and Reagan both went as low as 37% in their first terms, while Reagan's first term average was 50.3%, and Clinton's was 49.6.

So if you want to talk about how Obama is so horribly unpopular, and how sure it is that he'll be defeated by any Republican with a pulse... well go ahead, because DU is not the positive safe-haven for Democrats that some of us would like it to be. But just remember that pessimism is powered by being wrong. Reagan and Clinton both rough around the edges in their first term, and came back to absolutely destroy their opponent in the reelection campaign. Obama is going to do the same, against a field of Teabag-addled lunatics who think that the voices in their heads are God talking to them personally.

If you want to disagree, scream, rant, demoralize others, talk up how the Tea Party is going to kick his ass because he's weak and only has good speeches, you might be in the wrong place. Those same Gallup statistics show that around 85% of liberal Democrats support Obama's job performance, and for good reason. He is facing down dangerously insane opposition of a pitch that, as Jimmy Carter himself pointed out, is unprecedented in American history, and he's still working his ass off, even hobbled by a Republican House filled with drooling madmen who he has no choice about dealing with to pass laws.

3. Doesn't matter whether you can stand them or not
Are you the entire electorate? The post is concerning whether or not he will be re-elected. But thanks for sharing.

5. Pretty steadily in the mid-40s or so.
A little wobble, but not much until November, when he went up to 53, then a sharp spike down after the beginning of the year back to 42.

8. That's reassuring. For all my complaints about Obama, any Republican would be massively worse.
He'd better win.

7. At year 2.5 in his presidency, Clinton was running just under 50%
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 02:05 AM by Lasher
So was Nixon. Reagan averaged slightly worse. The worst president so far in modern memory, George W Bush, was still riding high at around 60% - ironically still being rewarded in the polls for his colossal blunder on September 11, 2001 and for his invasion of Iraq on March 20, 2003.

Obama's average approval right now is 44.8%, just above his all time low of 44.3% on October 16 last year.

It is true, as claimed in the OP, that Obama's average approval at this point is higher than was Clinton's or Reagan's. But it is not as high as George W. Bush's average.

9. Wow that is just great!
I really don't care about his poll numbers or how it compares to previous presidents. There is only one poll that matters coming up and he has lost my vote.

24. Indeed. But the Bushes are anomalies.
Junior had 9/11 of course. His father had a similar spike, up to 89% approval, right after the Gulf War, which basically persisted for months, substantially driving up his averages.

23. Pres. Obama will continue to be during both of his terms much to the dismay of a bilious minority.
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 02:40 PM by ClarkUSA
It must be galling to those who worship at Reagan's feet and think DINO Bill is their DLC Dreamboat that African-American President Barack Hussein Obama is more likeable and approved of by a consistent segment of the public, despite the constant lies and attacks made towards him 24/7.

Thanks for the facts/ Americans know a good, honest man when they see one, even if they don't agree with him all the time. :)
