What would President McCain have done?
Do you really think, he would have had any problems raising the debt ceiling?

If the liberals ever try to pull what the Tea Party just did, do you really think a republican president will hesitate to use the 14th amendment short-cut?

3. McCain would have slept a lot and woke up cranky.
By now Mrs Palin would have fed him poison brownies.

4. There would not have been this debate if he were President
Because the 8 years of tax cuts and continued spending on needless wars would have continued and the Congress would have just voted increase after increase.

This was only a debate because the teabaggers took office with a Democratic President.

5. Every democrat DID vote against raising the debt ceiling in 2006.
As far as what McCain might have done, it's impossible to say. He became so addled in his attempt to appeal to the far-right of the republican party that any sense of sane or cohesive strategy was lost. He literally might have tried anything. Thank goodness we don't have to find out.

8. You mean.. what would Palin have done?
'Cause McCain would have had a heart attack about 5 major decisions ago... and she'd be sitting in the big chair.

And what do I think she would have done? Whatever Todd told her to do = more tax breaks for the Oil Companies, more gun rights, and more people below the poverty line. Just a guess....

12. Yes, they would have hesitated
Wars are the Republican thing and no wonder, foreign affairs is one area where the president has a lot of power.

Domestic affairs do not interest them.

The problem with raising the debt ceiling is that it is something a Democratic Congress would do for a Republican president. Being responsible governing. Only Republicans would hold it hostage like that.

This is what comes of looking at things as "winning" and "losing" rather than governing. Losing the Democratic Congress was a big problem.

Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 10:20 AM by DemocratSinceBirth
If McCain was elected president there would be seventy Democratic senators and three hundred Democratic representatives as the Republicants would be blamed for this mess. If it wasn't for civil liberties I'd rather see the Republicants fail to dig us out of the ditch they made.
