Obama Administration orders insurance companies to cover birth control w/ no co-pays!!
This hasn't been posted yet ( maybe because it is something positive about Obama)

Health insurance plans must cover birth control as preventive care for women, with no copays, the Obama administration said Monday in a decision with far-reaching implications for health care as well as social mores.

The requirement is part of a broad expansion of coverage for women's preventive care under President Barack Obama's health care law. Also to be covered without copays are breast pumps for nursing mothers, an annual "well-woman" physical, screening for the virus that causes cervical cancer and for diabetes during pregnancy, counseling on domestic violence, and other services.

1. Saw this earlier elsewhere. Very cool news.
Shame you're going to poison the thread with your opening line though.

2. True, but I also feel frustration with constant bashing and no recognition of the good things. Obama
has to walk and chew gum and juggle knives everyday, yet the take on this board is that he is smoking cigars with Boehner plotting how to turn the govt. over to the Tea Party.

So much good has been done and this is an incredible move that will benefit so many. Why hasn't this been celebrated on a Democratic board????

9. No one's stopping you from celebrating it.
Party on!

But you have to expect the "bashing" and the criticism and take it with a grain of salt. It's a message board. A lot of different opinions, some just for the sake of argument.
Don't too it too personally or too seriously. Life is better that way.

13. This is such wonderful news.
And it's going to make freeper heads explode, which makes it all the sweeter. I agree with you about the attitude on this board. Horrible things are said about the president. It's like a child who screams "I hate you" after being told "no" by a parent. The anger is understandable. The temper tantrum is way over the top. Saying Obama wants to cut Social Security and Medicare. Like he's been conspiring with republicans to wipe out the entire social safety net since before day one. That's just BS, imo.

15. My exact sentiments. He has worked his whole life for Democratic causes, but now people on this
board want to claim that he is a secret Republican working to destroy Social Security?? It is the twilight zone at times. I want to believe that they are all underground trolls, but i don't think it is.

Personally, I wish both sides would ratchet down the antagonism towards the other a bit, though I realize this is probably a pipe dream on DU. :)

32. Well, I have to admit that I'm no angel here on DU (or anywhere, for that matter).
But I've been trying to be a little less snarky to people, and just save it for a select few. ;)

I usually only post news stories when I start a thread and add no comment of my own, but on the rare occasions when I do start a thread and post my opinion I make a conscious effort to make it diplomatic to all it may concern. If I start out with an insult the topic I wish to discuss and get others input on is immediately tainted, and bound to go off track.

Like I say though, I'm no angel, and there are times I give in to that urge. Hopefully it's not that often.

33. And why do you think there was a jihad in the first place?
The insurance companies weren't getting their cut of the pie. With Planned Parenthood, you could already get free birth control if you didn't have the money. But Planned Parenthood did much, much more for the health of women and babies. Defunding PP is not a good thing. Why? Because you have to see a doctor to get a prescription in the first place. And yes, there is co-pay or some other fee involved to go to the doctor. And if I remember correctly, it took more than one visit to the doctor to get the correct prescription that worked with my body, and I had to return every six moths to get another 6 month prescription.

Fund Planned Parenthood or 'free' birth control? Depends on what your definition of FREE is.

20. Yeah, really.
Believe it or not, I don't have unlimited funds. I'm sure this is great if you need birth control, but I don't. And yet, my insurance premium will go up to help pay for this.

Something about Progressivism not being a bankruptcy pact should probably go here....

21. Yea and something about
how the I've got mine and now go away policy isn't really inline with being a progressive.

I'm sorry you may have to pay a bit for to help those who need receive not only birth control but also mammogram screenings for free as well

I mean if this was Universal Healthcare you would be paying for others pills and bills too right? Just through taxes instead.

25. But it isn't Universal Healthcare financed by taxes, is it?
It's money in the pocket of a private, for-profit insurance company.

But now that you mention it, yeah, this is just like a tax-hike on the middle-class. Which I thought we'd been promised wouldn't happen. Oh well...

I've watched what the Republicans have tried to do over the past year at a state and/or federal level;

Defeat financial market regulations, lower environmental regulations, loosen child labor laws, lower the minimum wage until a person has worked six months at a job, crush unions, defund planned parenthood, dismantle social security/medicare/medicaid, and restrict voting of young people and minorities. I'm sure I've not highlighted all the goodies.

I really don't want to go back to the days of kids working in coal mines and our rivers literally catching on fire.

I will be voting for President Obama in 2012. There's no way I can sit out and watch this country be handed to a potential Scott Walker clone and the Koch brothers. I refuse to do that.
