I Don't Like This Fetishization Of The Deficit
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 04:21 PM by DemocratSinceBirth
When the main problem is that nearly one in five Americans are unemployed, underemployed, or too discouraged to look for a job. The debt is a chronic problem. Massive unemployment is an acute problem. Actually the debt problem is largely a function of the unemployment crisis. Less people working mean less tax receipts. Less tax receipts means bigger deficits.

Focusing on a chronic problem at the expense of an acute problem strikes me as dumb. If you present to the emergency room with chest pains you want them to focus on that and not your diabetes.

Hello Double Dip Recession

You heard it here first.

The March Of Folly...

2. It's Really Dumb
President Obama is being set up as the fall guy the second time. The first time was when the Republicants bequeathed him the worst economy in nearly one hundred years. The second time was when they are tieing his hands to deal with it.

But they will soon be "hoisted on their own petard" because by fetishizing the defecit and worshiping at the altar of a balanced budget they have tied their hands when it comes to tax cuts.

3. It's an establishment thing
You make a big fuss about the deficit and debt and the newspaper editorial boards say nice things about you.

4. Government spending affects just about every business in the US
in one way or another. Pull the rug out of that & everything will collapse. It's been this way since
WWII. Right wing nutjobs want to pretend that this isn't the case, but they are the same nutjobs that own or run the companies that rely on Government contracts.
