Obama and the famine - I just caught a few minutes of Diane Rehm,
so I can't swear to the accuracy of this post, but apparently the US has quietly mobilized to assist those facing famine in the horn of Africa. If I heard correctly, we're supplying half the food aid. Also, arrangements have been made to insulate NGOs from prosecution under the Patriot Act so they can take aid into areas controlled by various terrorist groups.

4. No doubt the reason it's "quiet..."
Is because we may not be well loved in all such areas, so keeping the name of the US out of it simplifies life for the NGOs whose people are most likely to be at risk. Doubly so if they're seen as US agents.
