Obama's vacation retreat damaged by fire
Source: Cape Cod Times

CHILMARK — A smoldering grill led to a small fire at the Blue Heron Farm — the Obama's summer vacation rental — early Tuesday morning.

An automatic alarm, followed by a telephone call to the department, alerted Chilmark firefighters of the problem at about 3 a.m., said Tom Wallace of Wallace and Co. Sotheby's International, the company that holds a master lease on the property and handles rentals for the site.

Damage to the exterior of the building was minor and the family vacationing at the property "will picnic today instead of grilling," Wallace said. He said the area will be cleaned up within 24 hours. The fire department's quick response was "a good test of all systems," he said.

"The damage was minor and hats off to the fire department. They came out quickly, put the fire out and it was like they had practiced for three weeks in anticipation of an early morning call," he said.

Come, we pack a picnic, go gather wampums and see what Maushop is up to...while the great sea sends roller after roller to the beach...

23. he's getting his ass handed to him and I would think he would
have take some pride in how people perceive him. I don't agree with a lot of the complaining that is going on but there are some things he could do to help himself.

27. yes it does, I'm not a big fan of the complaints around here
but some of it is true, that laid back style of his is getting him in trouble. I don't think he has done a bad job at all but every now and then he should call people names and yes the media is going to say he's being un-presidential and blah, blah, blah.

but it would get him noticed in a room full of noise.

28. It helps the right, nothing more
It's a petty argument born from the right, adopted by the left. Griping over someone taking a well deserved break is the opposite of reasonable.

I still believe it to be petty and unhelpful.

5. Why is he even thinking of taking a vacation
with the economy the way it is and the market tanking the way it is? I don't get it.

I hate to say it, but this is looking more and more like Bush's 3rd term. Tax cuts, more wars, ineffectual leadership, and constant vacations.

:(

6. OMG, you took the words straight out of Fox News's mouth
Honestly, I was wondering if this man, who has been working 80 hour weeks nonstop for the last six months, was ever going to have a week off to spend with his kids. And you are repeating Fox News drivel. There's nothing a president can do when every member of the Senate and House is gone for more than a month, and there's nothing he can do to affect Wall Street trading.

Bush used to take 5 weeks on his ranch every year for 8 years, and you begrudge this guy a week at the seashore with his family after Bin Laden, European crises, the Arab uprisings, the debt ceiling round-the-clock negotiating, and a thousand other headaches? Get real.

9. Call them back, to do absolutely nothing but make speeches
and get on TV.

The Republican House membership has done absolutely NOTHING constructive all year, brought us to the edge of financial disaster, more of them in August we don't need.

11. YES, people should remember.. most cheif execs work 5-6 day weeks
for 48-50 weeks a year, have cushy company-paid golf memberships, yachts, vacation retreats.

And VACATON 3-5 weeks a year, while earning MILLLIONS

Obama's Salary 400,000 plus living quarters, some (not most) meals when entertaining for the state.

Obama "works" seven days a week, reads prepares studies, meets with people. His day is 10+ hours almost every day. He has the hardest job in the world.

I think he deserves 21 days of vacation time with his family anywhere he wants to be with them.

He didn't create the mess, he's trying to clean it up, (not doing all that well at it yet)...but he deserves some down time with his family on Martha's Vineyard Island off Cape Cod.

Really? How exactly? No one is doing anything, which is why the market keeps tanking. Some leadership please.

15. Overly broad statements like that only go to show that
Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 06:01 PM by JAnthony
you don't know much about what has happened since Obama was elected, and how the actions of a Republican dominated House have frustrated any efforts he has already made.

If you want to blame Obama, fine! I just happen to think what strategies he is trying are not winning, not being enacted, and he is finding himself without the right tools to deal with Republican teahadist terrorist tactics employed by the likes of Bachmann and Rand Paul.

I'm not claiming he's successful, I'm stating he is UN successful. But he's not sitting on a ranch all summer in Texas clearing brush while the world faces global financial panic, stoked largely by conservative politicians and the Murdoch global media empire.

If you think it would get better with 10 more days of this mess, insstead of giving the family a vacation, I guess I can't agree with you there.

It's often easier to curse the darkness than light one candle.

Or, do you begrudge him that? And, his wife and kids?
