Pew poll: Democrats Not Eager for an Obama Challenger

Democrats Not Eager for an Obama Challenger

Despite speculation that the Democratic base has become increasingly disillusioned with Barack Obama, rank-and-file Democrats are not eager to see other candidates challenge him for their party’s nomination in 2012. Just 32% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say they would like other Democrats to take on Obama for the nomination, while 59% say they would not.

There has been little change in Democrats’ views about whether Obama should face a nomination challenge since last fall. In November, shortly after the midterm election, 38% of Democrats and Democratic leaners favored a primary challenge to Obama while 59% were opposed.

Far fewer Democrats want to see Obama challenged for the nomination than supported a primary challenge to Bill Clinton in December 1994. At that time, 66% of Democrats and Democratic leaners wanted to see Clinton challenged, shortly after the GOP won control of Congress for the first time in 40 years.

<...>

Independents who lean to the Democratic Party also are less likely to favor a primary challenge to Obama than last November. Currently, 34% express this view, compared with 47% in November 2010.

7. I believe there's a reason no Dems have PERSONALLY expressed a desire to challenge
Despite a deluge of GOP wanting to jump on the GOP primary clown car.

People should have learned the lesson from 2000 and should take note in WI despite some Dem gain: Once the GOP gets power, they do not yield easily. And once they're in, the REAL damage gets done. The blathering that there's no difference having President Obama in office is crap.

6. Say whatever, but
while the economy is stagnant, it is not slipping backward (despite the Republicans attempt to blow up the U.S. economy).

19. Who needs to? DU polls itself 20 times a day.
Lo and behold, the results never seem to reflect what's going on nationally.

14. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be posted here to counter
the sea of insanity that spews out of other forums and threatens to drown this entire site.

"Far fewer Democrats want to see Obama challenged for the nomination than supported a primary challenge to Bill Clinton in December 1994. At that time, 66% of Democrats and Democratic leaners wanted to see Clinton challenged, shortly after the GOP won control of Congress for the first time in 40 years."

We'll add this to the loooooong list of things that many on DU refuse to accept including:

Obama's list of accomplishments which makes some here literally froth at the mouth with impotent rage;
The Gallup polls (among many others) that show liberal support for Obama in the 70's and Liberal Dem support in the mid to high 80s;
The polls that show Bernie Sanders losing significantly in a matchup against Obama. Among DEMOCRATS. In VERMONT (his home state);
The 50 dozen articles about Dennis Kucinich which show his completely lackluster list of legislative accomplishments along with poll results that have shown time and time and time again that the American public, including those in the Democratic Party, want this man NO WHERE NEAR the White House.

Though I'm sure that the fanatical can't be bothered with this information because it proves ONCE AGAIN that their beliefs are not in line with reality. They will deny and dismiss. Their cries of "it's all PROPAGANDA!!" will fill the site once again. And the rest of the world will continue to give them the :wtf: like we always do.

17. Actually 32% is kind of a lot.
Edited on Thu Aug-11-11 03:07 AM by Tiggeroshii
And if you include the fact that 41% are not AGAINST challenging him, I think it's clear there need to be some souls to win over before having a nomination guaranteed next year. That's my take on these numbers, anyways...

I just think 32% gives a lot of room for a likable enough challenger to have a good shot.

21. This shows that most Democrats are rational pragmatists

Unlike the bomb-throwing haters infesting this forum.

Most D's are able to choose the good of the country over their own petty expectations.
