15. It's ridiculous, isn't it?
I think some people would only have been satisfied if somehow Kucinich had cloned himslef overnight, and the choices were K1, K2, and K3 (too lazy to spell his name 3 times :-))

11. i'll back of fail, and say meh
i see both of them as top establishment dems in the House, and I am at the moment 100% disgusted with Congress. To be fair, though, the dems don't control the House, and when they did control the House they were something of a bright spot. That's why i'm changing it to meh. On the other hand, I don't see either Clyburn or Van Hollen as standout dems, aside from the fact that they hold top spots. But maybe I'm wrong. Do you see them as anything special?

enough. I don't the man, but every time I have ever seen him - he just seems too milquetoast.

18. Rep. Clyburn is NOT "milqetoast!"
He is a strong, smart, fierce and committed fighter. This is a man who went to jail numerous times fighting for what he believes in and who continues to stand up for what's right.

One does not have to scream and yell and threaten to be tough. Rep. Clyburn speaks softly, but he is nothing even close to mild, meek or weak.

not just because of skin color, but because he used to be an educator, and he never looks or appears weak.

21. Do you ever get the feeling....
that unless a black man lives down to the "gangsta" stereotype that some folks feel the need to label him as weak, naive, ineffective, spineless, milquetoast?

32. does that include me, vabrella?
whatever our differences, our you going to let that lie stand?

which African Americans do I support are "gangster"? Is it Tavis Smiley? Is he gangster? Cornel West? John Conyers?

Is the difference between them and Jim Clyburn about how "gangster" they are? Or is it something that doesn't have anything to do with race? Is it maybe the difference between people at the top of the party structure and those who are not?

Oh, and about Obama being gangster, that's the last thing I want. Our last president was gangster:

Bill Maher- Obama is 'one black ninja gangster president'

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x595205

Enrique

why do blacks have to be ninja and gangster?

here we have a guy who is neither ninja nor gangster, and people like Bill Maher are still calling him that, because he's black.

26. WHY is it a "fail"? Van Hollen is my congressman. He represents a very liberal
and politically active district. He can't fuck up or he's in trouble. We don't play that shit here.

29. Exactly, he is my congressman as well.
And this is a very liberal district. A bad move means he is toast so I think he is a great pick.

33. Van Hollen Would Consider Tax Cuts for Wealthy for Another Year
U.S. House Democrat Chris Van Hollen said he would consider extending Bush-era tax cuts for wealthier Americans for a year if Republicans would agree to make the reductions permanent for “middle class” taxpayers.

I stand by "fail".

14. People are critizing these picks?
Seriously?

Great job by Nancy Pelosi. And a good job by Senator Reid, with my only misgiving with him being sending Baucus instead of Harkin to the supercommittee.

17. OK choices, but it doesn't matter since Baucus
is one of the Senate picks. All the Rs need is one Dem to cave, and they win. Baucus is their man. This is just an elaborate game.

Only one woman and 11 men. Surely there are more women in the congress who are experienced with financial/budget issues?

The pressure will come from our very blue district for him to do (and fight for) what is right.

We have house parties watching the ReTHUG debate just to take a drink anytime they refer to "Obamacare" or "taxes." It's fun!!
