3. All polls are useless
Including the Gallups and Rasmussens. I didn't intend this as a "sign in blood on parchment" thing. ;-)

8. That's a tough call
I'm a little biased, but, yes, Gore certainly was exceptional. I think the difference now is the relationship between Obama and Biden is more compatible than Clinton and Gore. I don't think Clinton gave Gore as much responsibility as Obama gives his VP.

When in doubt, I'd say it was a tie.

12. Actually, I think Biden should have a bigger role
After all, it wasn't conventional military that took out OBL: It was counterintelligience and Special Ops, which Biden has, quite correctly, suggested as the best approach to the entire Af/Pak theater, which would allow us to bring 95,000 troops home now.

13. Yes, Biden said long ago
that we should be relying more on Special Ops, rather than military forces. John Kerry had said something similar back in 2004 and had to back down from the comment.

I think Biden has a lot of influence on such matters in private, but obviously the president doesn't always take his advice.

I just noticed you are new. A big welcome to DU!!! :hi:

Oh my god, I just realized that rhymed which certainly was not intentional.

15. You're a poet, and you don't REALIZE it! [evil maniacal laughter]
Seriously, though, it was Biden who first suggested---seven years ago!---that Iraq should be partitioned into a Sunni state, a Shia state, and a Kurd state.

My friend, I wouldn't bet a freakin' thin dime that that WON'T be EXACTLY what happens after we finally leave!*

*That is, if we ever totally leave. :(

25. Oh my god
You remember that? My daughter and I were glued to the TV the day he presented his plan to the Senate. Riveting television and it doesn't seem that long ago.

I'm not sure we EVER leave anywhere unless we're thrown out.

11. Really?
Biden's the guy who said, "So what's the big deal here?" when speaking about the execution of an American citizen by foreign soldiers during the raid on the Gaza flotilla last year.

...That would be the same raid that the UN condemned, by the way.

20. No, replacing your VP is a sign of weakness
Every example of trying to "ticket balance" in recent history has been a total failure. The last time it was considered successful was Kennedy/Johnson. And IMO, Kennedy didn't pick Johnson believing that voters would vote for the bottom of the ticket. He picked Johnson to appeal to the southern Democratic establishment figures, who were rapidly bolting the party over Civil Rights.

The last elected president to change VPs when they ran for re-election was FDR. I like Biden and I think he should stay on.

And from the way you phrased that, I can tell you're aware that Ford dropped Rockefeller in favor of Dole in 1976. Didn't work. :P

and the most progressive. No competition there.

But I like Joe the Biden and he'd better not go anywhere.

30. I think I may have fucked up the Sanders option
Instead of predicating Obama's possible choice of the Vermont Senator on Hillary Clinton's negative response to an entreaty, I probably should have just phrased it, "Needing to once again fire up Progressives, the President taps Bernie Sanders to replace Biden."

I am very surprised that no one has voted for Bernie.

31. I think on some issues especially Obama should utilize him more
Biden's idea on Afghanistan was right on. Instead he went with what Hillary and the Pentagon said and he sent more troops to Afghanistan which really hasn't done much of anything. And it's not like that made a difference in finding bin Laden, since he wasn't even in that country!
