Most Difficult To Least Difficult Opponents For President Obama
Romney- Obvious flip flopper with no core principles but comes off as an assuring, competent figure
Pawlenty- Generic Republican but charismatically challenged.
Huntsman-See Pawlenty
Perry- Looks like he came out of central casting. He's Lyndon Johnson with good hair and bad ideas.
Michelle Bachman-Just bat shit crazy
Herman Cain- See Michelle Bachman
Rick Santorum- Couldn't even hold his own Senate seat.
Newt Gingrich- His expiration date was sometime last century.
Ron Paul- Americans aren't ready for his version of states rights masquerading as libertarianism.

I'm sure I forgot a couple.

We shouldn't underestimate Rick Perry but I would prefer to run against him than either Huntsman, Pawlenty, or Romney.

3. I think Pawlenty could be the toughest
just because he's so generic.

Obama does worse against the generic Republican.

5. But I Don't See Pawlenty Getting The Nomination
IMHO, it will be Perry or Romney. If I'm Romney I'm praying Sarah Palin gets in the race to split the anti-Romney vote.

4. HIS PARTY
The Rs are going to be 100 percent behind any candidate other than Romney, who they will "only" be about 98% behind.

If folks can't set aside the disappointments of what they wanted to project on the guy, and their lack of understanding that congress outmans him 535 to 1, what should be a second term will end up being the first term for Romney or Perry ...

6. I Think DUERS Who Think Fundys Won't Support Him Because He's Mormon Are Bound To Be Disappointed.
I have a friend who is a Fundamentalist Baptist preacher whose church left the Southern Baptist Church because it was too liberal! say to me while watching Glen Beck on tv that man has some good ideas even though he's a Mormon.

They will hold their nose and vote for him. What's the alternative?

11. Yeah ...
It isn't the faith stuff that will take a tick off the support for Romney - it is that he does not believe the whole bag of republican nonsense 100 percent, and is faking it sometimes, and they can sense it.

The faith stuff is irrelevent. He might be a mormon, but Ds are the spawn of satan embodied to these freakjobs.

They might VOTE for him, but because he is not a true believer (politically), they won't work as hard for him - see John McCain.

12. I know differently from personal experience that conservatively religious Christians will NOT vote
for Romney. No, not every single one of them, but enough of them to make a difference and he needs every one of their votes he can get.

In this situation the conservatively religious right believe they would be answerable to God for supporting a member of a Christian cult.

No, they will not hold their noses and vote for him. They just won't vote for president. Hopefully they would not vote at all.

7. In a 'normal' world
Buddy Roemer (who has declared his candidacy, but has gotten virtually no press) could be a viable opponent. But he says a lot of the same common sense things Democrats say: that we need to raise taxes on the richest among us and that the hugely profitable corporations and banks should be paying their share, so he doesn't stand a chance.

8. Romney lots of money
Bachmann, lots of money
Perry, lots of money
the rest, no chance, no money.

9. Since a large chunk of the electorate is stupid and shallow,
I think Perry poses the greatest threat. That is based solely on his appearance. I think if Romney is their nominee the baggers will split off and run Palin or Bachmann and split the vote. Pawlenty is as threatening (and exciting) as soggy toast and the rest are forgettable idiots.

10. If The Tea Baggers Can't Be Co-opted That Might Be Obama's Best Hope
He can easily win a plurality if the center-right vote is split. Winning a straight up majority against Romney, if the economy is still in the doldrums, is much more difficult...
