The Dems have always been a quarreling patchwork of ideologies. It never has been united.

2. True, and it's been our strength and our weakness.
I don't think party labels mean what they used to, though. The rethug of fifty years ago wouldn't recognize his party today. Bottom line, there is more virtue in diversity than unanimity though the latter is more comfortable to be sure.

4. Yeah
that's why the "bush could get whatever he wanted" stuff doesn't fly. Repukes will stick together and support each other no matter what. But we can't have that lock step stuff. So we have a price to pay. We don't get to do as much even with a majority.

Seriously,

The big two paries in the U.S. ae a patchwork of constituencies. Republicans failed because their patchwork fell apart. Democrats work much better with the divisivness. But they don't march to any single drummer.
