CBS/NYT poll shows extremely high approval for elements of the President's jobs proposal
Obama's approval rating drops to all-time low; Public split on jobs plan

<...>

Views of the president's job performance are marked by a striking degree of polarization along party lines -- the vast majority of Democrats approve (78 percent), while even more Republicans disapprove (89 percent) of how he's handling his job. But only 37 percent of independents approve, with 54 percent disapproving.

<...>

Some of these proposals even receive bipartisan support. Large majorities of Democrats, Republicans and independents alike think cutting taxes for small business is a good idea, and most also think a payroll tax cut is a good idea. Majorities think spending money on the country's infrastructure is a good idea - but Democrats (90 percent) support that to a far greater degree than Republicans (62 percent). One area in which Democrats and Republicans do not agree is providing money to state governments -- while 72 percent of Democrats think that is a good idea, just 29 percent of Republicans do.

The President's approval is not as dire as the headline implies. It's a 43 percent, which is in line with most polls. More striking is that approval for the elements of the President's proposal is extremely high.

This is also the poll that found Congress' approval at 12 percent

1. So push for them.
Make the Republicans pass the bill. Keep the pressure on.

2. Yes. That is exactly what the President is doing right now. Traveling the country using the pulpit.

6. Agreed.
Nice to see him leading. Refreshing change. If he keeps it up we might see something get done, and his poll numbers will turn around.

5. Yes.
It shows that he's trying to do something. We're finally starting to see the leadership we expected from him. We need for him to keep it up.

4. WOW!
That's almost exactly opposite of what MSNBC had on this morning for their rinky-dink poll.

Their poll said something like --
17% said the bill would be VERY GOOD for creating jobs.
32% said the bill would be SOMEWHAT GOOD at creating jobs.
24% said they DOUBTED the bill would be good at creating jobs.
25% said they the bill would NOT BE GOOD at creating jobs.

Their poll had an almost exact 50/50 split, as far as being positive/negative.
It really surprised me to see their lameass poll, but then I realized half of their commentators would be out of work if they had to admit the 2012 election is going to be a slam dunk for Obama.

7. Americans want jobs. The
MSM and pundits claim that's the reason for Obama's low approval rating. Yet it's interesting to watch the MSM and pundits try to prove that Americans aren't really into the proposal despite the evidence to the contrary.

8. I totally agree. I think a lot of it has to do with how old they are, too. The younger Americans are

getting really frustrated with Congress. That was one of the other aspects of their poll, people between the ages of 18-30 are finding the job market and their opportunities slipping away from them. There is so much pent up demand right now it isn't even funny. If the freakin' credit card companies would ease up on their restrictions, and the companies that are sitting on trillions of dollars would hire some of the unemployed, this economy would take off like a bachelor party for an entire group of boy scouts that have been camping out in the woods for the last 2 months. Banks are sitting on billions, maybe trillions of dollars, too so they can afford to make loans more available. There is so much need right now for new jobs that the Republicans are hurting the poor the most with their stupid policies.

My first vote for President was cast in 1976 for President Jimmy Carter, and it made a lot of difference to vote for someone who was honestly trying to solve the country's problems. But, in 1980 when Reagan/Bush pulled their "October surprise", the economy tanked 6 months after they took over. Unemployment went well over 10% under Reagan during his first term, and yet everyone remembers those days as great times.

I don't.

Who was the first president that you voted for?
Your attitude about the coming 2012 election seems to be very closely aligned to my own.
I think that age is going to determine to a large extent the level of turnout next year, as younger voters get angrier and more frustrated at the GOP's stances of working against President Obama. And I think they will start to see the GOP's obstructionist ways, if they haven't already.
