Martin Luther King Jr memorial
Cross posted in GD

I really dislike the actual physical memorial itself. But having said that, I love that there is a memorial to MLK Jr in Washington DC and I think it's fitting that it would be installed during our first black President's first term because there is a direct historical connection. I wish the great Dr. King were alive to see this. But I think he would have hated the memorial itself for being big and ostentatiously imposing and crude (my opinion). He was a truly humble man, a man who lived the Christian ethic of love and inclusion and kindness. As far as I know he didn't hate white people. I always felt he loved us too. He was my first living American Hero and still is. His 'I have a dream' speech still gives me goose bumps when I hear it. It always touches something so deep in me that I feel it must be my soul. Below is my homage to a man whose death robbed our country of part of it's heart and of its most basic Democratic ideals. He was a great man and a great American and far and away a man who was far ahead of our time. I can only hope his dream will come to be.

1. Of all the memorials in Washington D.C this one should be at the top of the list.
Recommended.

2. I actually like the statue itself...
I know there was controversy ...but when I look at it to me it conveys the strength of the man...

3. The fact of a memorial to MLK Jr in Washington DC is important to me
So it's really not a matter of taste, but I think something more subtle, like the man himself would have been better. But I love that there's a memorial.
