Chris Hayes hosted a FANTASTIC discussion on Melissa Harris-Perry's article, race, politics & Obama

this morning. He allowed Professor Harris-Perry to discuss her piece that caused so much controversy and then fostered a very respectful, open conversation about the issues she raised.

I LOVE this show and the way Chris Hayes approaches his topics and guests.

It was also interesting that three of his four guests were black - something usually never seen on these political discussion programs where we're usually lucky to have ONE black participant. This show is such a breath of fresh air!

I was going to post about it earlier, but I thought better of it. I felt like those who disagree with MHP would just reiterate their earlier arguments, those who agree with them would reiterate theirs, and I didn't want to relive that. (I still agree with MHP and think her discussions about the attempt to equate Pres Obama with MLK or FDR are instructive.)

At any rate, Chris's show is maybe the best news program. He consistently has diverse panels and that diversity is incredibly rewarding.

She has become a real paradox for me. Just when I think I know where she stands on issues, she seems to do a 180. She has her valid points on race, for sure, but I have to say that her seeming attitude towards OWS was disappointing. Her mocking was gentle, for sure, compared to much of the MSM (and RW), but it seemed to be there, nonetheless. Focusing on hygiene issues--just as Nicole Wallace did in full mocking derision on Bill Maher a week ago... and painting them as somehow "amateurish" for using old school crowd reverberation of the message to amplify (knowing that NYC won't allow them to use mics or bullhorns)...sigh....

I know it is too much to ask that all of the pundits/spokespersons that represent the "left" would speak to OWS with the passion of an Al Sharpton, or Alan Grayson, but can we please focus on the incredibly serious issues at hand when in front of that "tv box" and not buy into the snark of others that does nothing more than demean and dismiss the movement?
