The Hill: Senate Democrats will hold vote Friday on $35 billion jobs bill
Senate Democrats will hold vote Friday on $35 billion jobs bill
By Alexander Bolton

10/19/11

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he will schedule a vote to proceed to a $35 billion jobs bill on Friday.

"We're going to make sure there's a vote on our bill this week," Reid said.

The $35 billion measure would direct federal funds to states to prevent layoffs of teachers, police officers and firefighters.

Democrats estimate the legislation will save or create 400,000 jobs. Most of the funding, $30 billion, would go to teachers. First responders would get $5 billion.

It would be paid for by a 0.5 percent increase on income over $1 million.

1. Are they sure the WAR CHEST can do without that 35 billion? Pretty paltry.
Better than nothing. That's all Americans deserve apparently. Better than nothing.

7. If you know you are going to lose, you might as well go big--but this is a step in the right
direction nonetheless.

4. Republicans blocked the AJA so Reid is breaking it into pieces to put Republicans on the hot seat
If enough voters contact their Republican Senators, they will perhaps think twice about blocking this part of the bill. The Republicans will look bad when they block this next piece of the American Jobs Act--if the media reports it and the Democrats hammer home that Republicans are blocking putting teachers, firefighters, cops and construction workers back to work.

Make them sweat, Harry!

6. The MSM won't make them look bad. The MSM only makes these crooks look "patriotic".

8. It's getting harder every day to pitch that crap to a majority of "teh peoples."
Republicans are heartless, unAmerican, corporate owned bastards (as are too many (D)s), and no amount of PR is going to keep that under wraps forever.

5. I doubt the Republicans will even let this through.
It's not a lack of wanting bigger solutions. It's the impossibility of getting them. Frankly, it's all up to us in 2012. Shit doesn't happen fast. It takes its own time. You can demand immediate action, but you'll be disappointed, I guarantee. It's frustrating.
