Disappointed Democrats protest Obama's SF visit
Make that disappointeed, wealthy Democrats. Maybe this is the wake-up call he needs.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/10/26/MN3J1LM0N6.DTL&ao=all

In a powerful display of profound disappointment with President Obama, some of the Democratic Party's biggest donors gathered Tuesday - not inside his tony San Francisco fundraiser at the W Hotel, but outside on the sidewalks carrying signs in protest of his policies.

"I don't even know what he stands for," said Susie Tompkins Buell, a co-founder of the Esprit clothing company and one of the most generous Democratic Party donors in the nation - instrumental in backing such powerhouse progressive organizations as the Democracy Alliance and Media Matters....

But on Tuesday, instead of dining with the elite crowd of about 200 who paid at least $5,000 a head - and up to $7,500 for a photo with the president - at the two-hour luncheon, the Democratic activist, who could easily afford the fundraiser, said it was more important to stand outside with an estimated 1,000 demonstrators.

Her goal: to urge Obama to stop the Keystone XL pipeline, a proposed 1,700-mile underground conduit linking the tar-sand fields in Alberta, Canada, to Texas refineries. Environmentalists say the pipeline would result in untold environmental damage. "I think this is a huge issue about our future, about the planet, not just America," she said. "And he needs to be a leader ... to have the awareness of it. To fight for it."

Another prominent Dem contributor is also quoted as saying that Keystone is the dealbreaker for him. Veddy in-te-resting.

1. You left out the third paragraph...
Tompkins Buell, who is a longtime friend of Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and was among her biggest donors in the 2008 presidential race, has long played a starring role in San Francisco as a hostess for presidents, top legislators and world leaders at fundraisers for progressive campaign causes.

Phone Hillary?

16. Exactly: only the State Department has approved this pipeline
and there were a number of inside connections there that seem to have led to that approval. Tompkins Buell should definitely phone Hillary.

19. Obama's not going to do it...
...because he'd never hear the end of it. He's made a careful coalition and it's prepared to set fire to the kettle yet. I remember the primaries...:scared:

9. This whole project has reeked from start-to-finish.
Can't say I'm hopeful it will be rejected. It will be argued on the basis of job creation, but it will most certainly jeopardize the environment. At some point we have to stop promoting dirty and hazardous energy sources.

10. The State Department did conlcude...
...that it will jeopardize cultural resources - which I take to mean Native American lands. My best guess - it will never get built after being tied up in court for a decade. They're just waiting to see how it hashes out in the executive branch before taking it to the other two branches of government.

Thanks for your post. I did not know this particular angle of the story. Glad to know there is more to throw under the wheels of this project hopefully to bring it to a screeching halt.

I mean what was Hillary's reaction to reports that Gaddafi was dead: wow! Not let's hope this is true - or something else more sobered - but wow - amazement.

22. Yeah, the "unions" are for the pipeline
At the State Department's last public hearing on the Keystone XL pipeline, there were all kinds of union people demonstrating outside the Reagan International Trade Center in D.C., they even came into the hearing, they were some what thuggish, they were also mostly poor hispanics that couldn't speak a lick of English and poor African Americans. Pipe-fitters union. when some of the against the pipeline people questioned them they admitted that they had been paid by the pipeline promoters. I witnessed this first hand.

23. First of all, the State Department hasn't yet made a decision on the pipeline.
Second, does anybody really think that Obama will have no say in that decision or is this another opportunity to bash a Clinton?

Same old crap around here.

28. its just a clinton bash
which surprises me since she is about the only member of this administration not constantly shooting off their own feet
i had my doubts going in about her but she has proven herself the most capable member of the whole damn group
and the only one who has kept a consistency of what she said and what she has done
this wont sound like much in the way of praise to anyone but my gator sister

Well, you know how I feel. She should have been president. It's no surprise to anyone who knows her that she is capable, decisive and consistent. She's also caring and funny.

Thanks for your kind words.

Take care!!!
