Jewish Vote Not A 'Problem' For Obama, Polls Show

National surveys conducted by Gallup International show that American Jews have approved of Obama’s job performance throughout his presidency by an average of 14 percentage points more than the rest of the American electorate. This gap undercuts a frequently made, but factually erroneous, claim that Obama has a policy toward Israel that alienates Jewish voters, leading Gallup to conclude that its results “call into question attempts to link a decline in Obama’s approval among Jews to his statements or policies on matters important to Jewish policymakers and lobbyists.”

While the antipathy toward Republicans is one central component of the Jewish vote, another key factor is the very positive feelings that Jews express toward Obama and Democratic policies. The president’s signature accomplishments of his first term — ending the war in Iraq, the Osama bin Laden operation and health care reform — directly address three issues that Jewish voters identified as determinants of their vote in 2008.

They are so used to the idea that if they say in enough times, it will be true, that they forget that sometimes reality actually conforms to, you know, reality.

And, if you forgive me for being a little self-analytical, we Jews are a stubborn (stiff necked) people who don't really like being told what to do. The constant drum beat that we *ought* to abandon Obama, made by people who we suspect don't really have our best interest at heart, is likely to be more off-putting than persuasive.

Most African-Americans know which party has their true interests at heart and don't like being told that they're basically stupid for continuing to vote for Dems. I wonder how many fewer Jewish people would vote for Republicans if they knew that the whole reason that most of them want Israel to survive is so that it, well, can be destroyed later during the Rapture?

"fill in the blank". It's a tried & true tactic, but it's disturbing to see it used here so often.

Someone of importance wrote the other day that Obama must have been bush whacked by the national security folks soon after he became President. This, the argument ran, would explain why he had caved to the Bush agenda regarding foreign and perpetual wars.

I think that may have happened. These are powerful folks, well connected, anti democratic to the core.

The same may have happened re. his stance on Israel. We have seen the President utter some fairly enlightening words regarding the region and the occupation, but the absence of follow through suggests that he has also been pressured to cave...if for no other reason than to be re-elected.

So, no wonder he is not held in disregard by Jewish voters. If one of their primary aims is the insulation of Israel from criticism, then Obama, after a lapse or two, has stepped right in to their agenda.
