2. After the problems he had when he called the Boston police "stupid"....
He is probably reluctant to start another firestorm like that one!

7. Cambridge (actually) didn't involve shooting people in the head at close range
with tear gas canisters, spraying poison gas at peaceful folks, and so forth.

This is serious repression.

3. Yeah that worked out real well last time
Amazing how many people want this president to draw himself into controversies where there is nothing to be gained and/or nothing he can substantively do.

But hey, it would make them feel good to see the president get mad. And that is really all that is important in the end, isn't it? Our own feelings and edification.

4. JFK sent troops to protect civil rights --think he was needlessly drawn into that?
Edited on Tue Nov-22-11 10:30 PM by CreekDog
but maybe you're right, Kennedy should've just stayed out.

i mean, the only job of civil rights activists back then was to reelect Kennedy and to *like* it.

just like now. don't ask Obama to get involved in police brutality and your pesky squabbles.

activists' jobs are to reelect him or to shut up.

or so says a significant portion of DU.

10. Zero. That's how much.
I for one am done with symbolic politics. It's all a waste of time.

Remember, Bill Clinton's "Race Initiative" in 1997? Don't worry if you don't. It was a complete vapid waste of time.

5. will it make a difference?
That's the real question...will he act or speak out.? Will it help, that remains to be seen. Im not impressed with the whole 'i hear ya,and keep on doing what your doin' feel good message doesn't cut it when such horrible brutality is happening...

11. i was infuriated
OWS tried to speak, but Obama dodged. His silence on violations of the bill of rights by violent cops is very telling of who he really works for.

17. I watched the video. It was the crowd that drowned out OWS, not Obama.
Obama was trying to hush the crowd he kept saying it was okay.

Why do people always blame Obama for things that are NOT his fault???
It is getting very old and tiring.

14. I think Obama would be a very wise leader to listen to OWS
And also to speak out against the police brutality that has plagued the protests.

That's my opinion, and at this stage of the game, I don't think very many Americans will disagree with him, except the 20% who are going to disagree with everything Fox News and Rush Limbaugh tell them to disagree with in the first place.

16. He does need to speak up about it
I'm not being critical or calling him out, I'm stating my opinion, and it is my own. That said, it would be a mistake for him to pass up an opportunity to PROVE that he believes in the American people, particularly when they exercise their rights to the point of pain.

And that is what has been happening.

19. "Purty words", "all talk."
Is what he's met with here. He did say of the protesters: "..you're the reason I ran for office."

I personally think he already believes in the American people. Just my opinion.

21. So Obama's actions should be based on fear of DU response.
That makes sense. You should be a political consultant.

20. Very interesting. BLESS OWS - this is the movement that has been...
...percolating for a long time.

I hope the occupation continues to grow beyond physical spaces and engages more and more people!
