Missing in the jobs report analyses: Republicans still have no intention of working to create jobs

WASHINGTON, DC (Dec 2)House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement today after the Department of Labor released its unemployment report for November 2011:

“Any job creation is welcome news, but the jobless rate in this country is still unacceptable. Today marks the 34th consecutive month of unemployment above eight percent. As you may remember, the Obama administration promised unemployment would stay below eight percent if its ‘stimulus’ was enacted. That promise has gone unfulfilled.

“Because the president’s policies have failed, the House has passed a series of bills designed to remove government barriers to private sector job creation. There are now 25 bipartisan jobs bills passed by the House awaiting a vote in the Senate. The key to getting all of these jobs measures enacted is the United States Senate. President Obama should use this opportunity to call on Senate Democrats to immediately give these bipartisan bills the vote they deserve.

“The American people want action on jobs, and the House is listening to the American people.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement on the national employment numbers for the month of November:

“During the holidays, it’s always comforting to see an uptick in seasonal hiring, but far too many people still remain out of work and the economy still faces systemic problems. Unemployment has remained high and economic uncertainty has prevailed because of the constant threat of tax increases from Washington Democrats and the Obama Administration. And, as we move into the holiday season, working families, individuals and small business owners are feeling the effects of a stalled economy and a stagnant job market as holiday giving and travel stretches tight budgets even further.

“The House continues to pass bipartisan jobs bills, but we need the President and his party to work with us to promote business growth and hiring right away. Time and again, I’ve heard small businessmen and women say that tax and regulatory uncertainty are preventing them from investing, growing their businesses and hiring new workers. Despite the needs of job creators, the President and Senate Democrats continue to ignore common sense efforts to remove burdensome regulations and promote an environment for job creation. To date, the House has passed more than 20 bipartisan jobs bills, but unfortunately our colleagues in the Senate are much more interested in political show votes than working together to improve the economy.

“Since his jobs speech in September, the President has said that he wants to work with Congress. When we work to find common ground, we’ve been successful at producing results – we saw this with the passage of our patent reform bill, the trade agreements, our 3% withholding repeal and veterans jobs package. I hope that as we approach the start of a new year, we can all commit ourselves to finding common ground, cooperating, and making incremental progress on areas of agreement.”
