How so many Views so fast?

I notice that for some posts, a couple minutes after some they appear, they have over 300 views, but other posts submitted a few minutes earlier have only. say, 20 views. Are some people upping their view counts by automated bots or by repeatedly hitting "f5" to refresh the page?

1. I think the difference in views is real.

Some posts just get a lot more attention. I think as a general rule: Sensational or controversial = many views. Thoughtful or non-controversial = not many views.

Human nature.
