<snip>

When the House of Representatives voted last month on a budget to get the nation's finances under control, my hope was that America was ready for an adult conversation about the massive fiscal challenges this country is facing.

These past two weeks, southern Wisconsinites vindicated that hope. Across the district I am honored to represent, thousands of my employers took part in 19 listening sessions to voice concerns, share words of encouragement and offer ideas for how to get this great nation off the path to decline and onto the path to prosperity. I want to offer my thanks to everyone who attended, regardless of whether it was to agree, disagree or simply join the debate we're having.

Q: Can't we save Medicare just by cutting spending elsewhere?

A: Cutting wasteful Washington spending is essential to solving our short-run fiscal problems. But it is government spending on health care that is driving our debt crisis.

1. if you were really interested in having an 'adult' conversation you would
be talking about cutting defense and getting rid of tax cuts for rich people. you would also be talking about RAISING the tax rate for rich people. Even if you cut medicare and every other domestic spending, it won't do anything to get rid of the deficit. In fact, it would make it worse because you would have more people ending up in the ER because they don't have medical insurance and waiting until they cannot wait any longer.

I want to know why no 'news' outlet is discussing the THREE budgets. there are three but they only mention two. There is a way to balance the budget and get rid of the deficit without gutting everything we fucking believe in.

2. Yep, the People's Budget needs to be in the conversation....
The Peoples Budget

This needs to be pushed as the path to the 2012 elections and future of America. Not perfect, but such a striking contrast with the Ryan disaster will be easy to explain to the public.

3. What a load of bovine fecal material.
His answer should read:
A: Cutting wasteful Washington spending is essential to solving our short-run fiscal problems. Government spending on military is driving our debt crisis, and I will propose cutting the military budget by 75%.

4. Listening Sessions?
Sorta implies someone is doing all the talking.

If it is a two way street it would of been called a discussion.
